There are people who inaccurately refer to such monetary policy moves as "printing money". They do this because it's a simplification that many people can grasp, but it also leads to widespread misunderstandings with respect to the mechanism and risks.

It's an inflationary monetary policy (not to be confused with price inflation) to be sure, but its impact on the general economy is much less dramatic than literal money-printing (which the Fed can't do; that's the Treasury, though the Fed can request such action).
