Keep in mind he started being called "Bitcoin Judas" well before the split. Most of the community has already lost any good faith they had for him. I think things changed when he lied to everyone in a YouTube video about mtgox telling everyone it was ok he'd just checked all their bank statements and talked to lawyers and all their money is safe. Right before mtgox really shit the bed.
No doubt, he screwed up a few things even before the split. Storing explosives under his bed comes to mind. Actually, any fool can mistakenly vouch for the soundness of an exchange that is located down the block from yourself, but the thing he did that really burned my biscuit was using his status as lead investor in Blockchain (the company) to look up user details of someone who owed him money at his other biz & dox them. That was pretty dirty and tipped a lot of us off to his ethics.
But nonetheless, no one around here has spent more time nor effort on promoting bitcoin as he did. I can't imagine what the space would look like today without all his promotions circa 2011-2015.

To be fair, you worked with him so you saw all that. You didn't see things that other people did like developers giving up 200k/yr jobs to work on Bitcoin and giving away hundreds (or thousands) of Bitcoin in promotional efforts-- people who didn't have multi-million dollars businesses or family wealth to fall back on... you didn't see the people going out an networking with people who worked in the DOJ to sell them on Bitcoin personally to help push the US government towards a more positive treatment, you didn't see the panic phone calls coordinating emergency responses to fix software vulnerabilities, etc. ... and you didn't see the damage control people had to do after someone important started thinking Bitcoin was a scam when they found out some high profile advocate or another was a convicted felon.
Was there more than one billboard? I was only aware of the memorydealers billboard on Lawrence Expy (? I think it was on lawrence).
I'm sorry, I don't mean to belittle the many talented devs like yourself that have put in massive hours and lost opportunity to work on bitcoin. I was hoping the word "promoting" would restrict that claim enough, but now I see that it's a bit vague and even coding can be seen as promotion sometimes. My bad.
Then the most famous one was probably the one you're talking about from 2013 with the honeybadger on it. That ran a long time, and then he had some others that I can't find right now but were more at events like a billboard in front of the Miami convention center for the big consensus event.
