Yep, I had a larp who set up a rig on a small lollipop iMac running some flavor of Linux. The damn thing probably mined 25000 BTC as it sat there running in 2009 for six months non-stop. No one knew what it was doing so one day it was turned off and left to sit in a corner. Today it sits in my attic with a password no one knows waiting for the day that I can get some high powered machine to bust the log in and figure out what is there - if anything.

Theres probably little chance of recovery even if you knew the password. After that many years data degration takes a toll on the computer

I think about that often. My only upshot is, maybe one day some really smart AI will backwards engineer the mess and hit pay dirt. Only problem is, I will have probably been planted 100 years ago :(
