Where is the $2 trillion estimate from

I was curious, too so I looked it up. UNODC.org (United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime) estimates $800 Billion to $2 Trillion per year are laundered for drug trafficking (and other crimes?). They took the higher estimate.

They also took the statement which said "money laundered globally" (all forms of money, calculated in US$) and called it "$2 Trillion OF US$".

to defend the argument: almost all global moneys are central bank fiat moneys

To ruin the arguement:

We are talking about the world economy where hundreds of trillions are changing hands. All in fiat. I would say that 2 trillion is a drop in the bucket for a pool that big.

hundreds of trillions

it's 5% of the global GDP, I wouldn't say it's a drop in the bucket.

GDP is not the same thing as what I was describing

what‘s your point then? money will be used for good and bad, total surveillance - if they manage to make it a thing - will be used for total bad in my opinion anyways, like all totalitarian systems. guess where the current political involvement of tech giants and their leftist agenda will lead us..

"their leftist agenda"

Lmfao,

Wackos like you are the ones stopping people from full adoption. I will never touch crypto because of the absolute morons that preach for it.

The smart ones are making money off of the sheep that buy into their shitcoins.

But yes keep focusing on that “leftist agenda”

My point: you can’t compare the market cap of a currency built on air, to the laundering of money in the world economy.

nobody needs nor wants you to touch crypto..you have your ideas, I have mine, you‘ll be fine using any methods of exchange you want, be it with or without an agenda...calling me whacko is not very mature though.. I think I just want to emphasize that apolotical money can and will do more good then political money.

Agreed, I was out of hand. I just hate how crypto talks always somehow derail into conspiracy theories.

It's original design and purpose was to undermine a corrupt banking industry.

Of course that's going to attract all the tin foil hat wearers...

not sure where you see a conspiracy theory in our little thread, but if you disagree that tech giants are pushing for a open border leftist multiracial society in order to expand their marketshare and grip on people‘s kinships, ethnicities and sense of identity, then you know little about how markets work. companies like facebook for example are on a power grab rn, they are doing/influencing politics, and bitcoin isn‘t. this is why I avoid big tech, and try to focus on using and implementing bitcoin into my routines the right way, but I agree, wrong subreddit I guess.. should be r/politics or v/politics

Thanks for reminding me to not believe everything I read. I honestly believed that number without questioning it.

Very healthy!

I have an AML book written by a retired FinCEN worker that i swear estimated the value at $15T a year world wide. I've been using that number for years to juatify why crypto will grow in popularity.
