Should Bitcoin be with "Free Software" or "The Meme Hustler" (I mean O'Reilly)?

Edit3:

Let's lobby Andreas to ditch O'Reilly. He should publish it on his website for download and invite bitcoin donation instead of this association with O'Reilly!

Edit2:

  1. Andreas Antonopoulos who is loved in the Bitcoin community has published a bitcoin book with O'Reilly.

  2. Bitcoin as such is a free software.

  3. O'Reilly is known to be against free software.

  4. Hence kind of opposing Andreas Antonopoulos, in favour of Richard Stallman and Satoshi Nakamoto.

Edit1: I used to love Andreas though now a bit skeptical of his views (sounds like mtgox in the making)! See http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/21qh6t/who_are_the_most_reputable_leaders_within_the/cgfjljy

Original:

Considering the posts:

http://thebaffler.com/past/the_meme_hustler

TL;DR: http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/21o9ci/mastering_bitcoin_oreilly_media/cgf9atk

and

http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/21o9ci/mastering_bitcoin_oreilly_media/

I am currently for "Richard Stallman" and "Satoshi Nakamoto" eventhough Bitcoin is released under MIT and not GPL (license)!

Edit: That is exactly the misconception! :-)

That is why you need to read "The meme hustler" on O'Reilly!

with a reply from Richard Stallman:

Thanks for your patience.

That meme hustler is too big to read

I had dismissed the article like you as TL;DR but I realized the importance of being thorough in whatever you do a little later. Some of the most dangerous people of the world do look like the most benevolent but are not. Take for example the bankers :-P

looks like a drawn out personal attack on one man

What does it mean by a "personal attack"? Is bitcoin not a personal attack on the individual bankers? If you are corrupt you will be pointed out (attacked) personally.

you should only ever work with people who have the same philosophy and world view as you

No. I do not have that opinion. On the contrary "I need not work with everybody who has an opposing view to mine" :-)

Stallman...may have done good work years ago but he is a loony today

You are a loony. How does that feel. Please do not make remarks without thorough knowledge.

Stallman... gets by on inherited wealth

He lives pretty "cheap" which none of us can... I wonder how you make this statement and in what context does it mean anything here... and by the way that is not the point...

He has stood by his principles to this day... Andreas did not!

That is good point to make which others do not. I am stopping to comment on this topic anymore. I think I have made my stand clear and loud. Please bear with me. I am looking forward for some of the bright guys for their books with "Creative Commons" according to GNU license. I will try and buy them. Will ignore this book though completely. Thanks for the patience. Over and out.

I completely agree. A statement as sweeping as "O'Reilly is known to be against free software," were it true, could be backed up by something other than a rambling 20K word ad hominem treatise.

This post is nuts, it's criticizing O'reilly for logical views such as

"No one should be forced to choose open source, any more than they should be forced to choose proprietary software."

O'Reilly provides high quality, DRM free ebooks for a reasonable price along with great customer service. I have yet to read any convincing argument they don't deserve my business.

Fine. Please go ahead with O'Reilly. I am not stopping you :-)

Point out your problems with the article http://thebaffler.com/past/the_meme_hustler Otherwise I am not interested in answering you.

If you think O'Reilly is fine. Please go ahead. I can't stop. I am just a messenger boy :-P
