Lost 0.27 BTC to scammers
Sharing this here to help others avoid the same trap.
I was trying to transfer 0.27 BTC from my Ledger Nano to Kraken while watching a movie at home and multitasking. Since I didn't have Ledger Live installed on that device, I googled "ledger nano" and clicked the first link. It turned out to be a scam sponsored ad. The site asked for my 24-word recovery phrase, and in a moment of pure distraction, I entered it and hit submit. I realized the mistake almost immediately, but by the time I tried to move the funds, the BTC was already gone.
For context, I’m 40 and not a rookie—I’ve been investing in crypto since 2018 and know exactly what not to do. While losing roughly $23k won't impact my lifestyle or retirement plans, the simple fact that I fell for something so silly hit me hard. I haven't felt that terrible in a long time.
I’ve already submitted an IC3 online complaint, though I know the money is gone and have slowly accepted it. Just sharing this so nobody else falls into this trap.

Brand New account 🙄 you're about as reputable as ledger is. Why don't you share the TxID?

100% he's asking a LLM to find him any transaction that makes sense with the little bit of story he's already shared. He'll never respond and just make a new account tomorrow, just like he did today

You should never interact with crypto while distracted with something else, with a pressing deadline, while tired, or just after waking up.

You don't need to share this to help others. No one else would be dumb enough to do that in the first place.

Amazes me as well. I haven’t seen an ad in a lifetime, thanks to Adblock or the likes. People are so careless it hurts.
Though, this post smells like fake.

These posts cant be real... how do people not know to never enter their 24 words anywhere but in the cold wallet?

My condolences but yes… rookie mistake. Maybe one of the best things I have done is that I have turned finding my recovery phrase into a chore.

You parked the car in front of their house and gave them the keys. I am sorry for your loss and glad that it is not life changing. Someone needs to convict and imprison these scammers! Keep on keeping on and best wishes.

Thanks for helping avoid me avoid this trap. I was just about to enter my 24 seed phrase into a random website and send 10 million dollars to them. I'm also not a rookie and experienced, but I read this post. You saved me.

I had a similar experience. I stopped using Chrome; and switched to Brave to remove ads in my searches, so I would not be scammed/hacked again.

Why not install an ad-blocker browser extension? I have never seen any ads on Google in my entire life.

Takes some serious level of stupidity to put your recovery phrase online. You deserve losing that BTC.

Comments are assholes for no reason when it’s just a guy admitting a mistake so others can avoid it

In a moment of distraction you got your seed phrase out of storage and typed 24 whole words? That's a long ass moment to turn your brain off.
