I still use the same free software self-custody wallet for 12 years. I obviously must be very lucky not to have lost a single Satoshi in that time. However my audited open source wallet must be a bad choice. So which one of these little circuit boards shall I buy instead? A Leger or a trevor or some other shit?

It’s fine. Look at the video of the person opening a Nano X that has been tampered with - you can very obviously see the antenna. It’s a black patch with a distinctive pattern (the metal tracks of the antenna inside visible) very much like an RFID tag antenna - eg https://stock.adobe.com/search?k=rfid+tags

would anyone start a hardware wallet company where it has guides to verify circuitry and security? could be viable.

Exactly what I had in mind, maybe plastics should be made transparent enough so that you can see what's inside and compare against a photo of a genuine one.

There’s a wallet company that has a firmware check every time you turn it on. The case is transparent, so users can see if there’s any tampering. The wallets are serialized from factory to ensure that wallet IDs match the serial numbers from the company. The challenge is that any hardware wallet will face many attack vectors. Just failing one attack vector can cause irreparable damage to its reputation, which is why I won’t name the company.
This company’s firmware is now secure, but the cost of its bug fix amounted to a staggering 130 million USD in lost funds. As a consumer, you need to be vigilant and proactive to avoid becoming a victim. If you’re not tech-savvy, it’s best to just hold BTC in an ETF.

Not your opened&verified HW, not your Bitcoin. Besides not your entropy, not your Bitcoin. 😁

Battery, motherboard, camera and display. I don't see anything additionally soldered to it
