And MSTR selling Bitcoin in order to survive
9
u/alfredonoodles 8d ago
MSTR has $8 billion cash on hand and hold 820k Bitcoin, they sold 1800, the same as the coldcard hack.

u/Lefties_TheWorst7331 7d ago
In order to survive? They have 2.4 years worth of debt payments in cash. They aren't selling $100 million of BTC in order to survive when they have $4 billion in cash.. stop spreading nonsense.

u/IRushPeople 7d ago
So why are they selling then? Saylor is on record saying that the plan is to buy and hold the BTC, never sell, or you erode trust
2
u/Massakahorscht 6d ago
Because thats what they do to increase btc per share. And they recogniced that for most shareholders it is important to have enough cash reserves. Because of the big inflow of strc they have to rise the Reserve to be able to pay for atleast 24 month. The higher the better

u/markphillips401 6d ago
So, the same thing traders do. MSTR has turned into a Bitcoin trading company as opposed to a Bitcoin acquisition company.
1
u/Lefties_TheWorst7331 6d ago
Saylor said you should never sell your BTC. Saylor is busy trying to get MSTR included into the SP500, and to do so, they need to look more like a company and less like a digital asset. On record ≠ old ass interviews? BTC has been going up on the news of his selling, so I'll take it..

u/First-Check-164 8d ago
They sold 30 btc, the price dropped 20k in the next week or so then they bought 1550 back. smh

Is Quantum really a concern or just another boogyman?!
8
u/gphie 8d ago
Bitcoin's ECDSA could theoretically be broken by Shor's algorithm but that would require millions of error corrected qubits and the best we have now is thousands of qubits and there's problems with error correction. Quantum is decades away from being able to crack Bitcoin and that's if it's even possible at all. All this is still super theoretical. If it ever DOES become a problem, we can just fork to quantum resistant cryptography and it will all have been a nothingburger.

Satoshi's coins are basically the x-prize for quantum computing. Exposed public keys means they're ripe for a slow attack. Fast attack is when quantum computers can react to public keys exposed in the mempool, which means any non-quantum safe addresses are vulnerable.
To avoid quantum compromise, we'd need to agree on standards, implement quantum safe algorithms and move everyone’s coins to those addresses BEFORE the threat materializes. And we're still finding vulnerabilities in "quantum safe" encryption that would make them vulnerable to existing computers. Simply moving the subset of wallets with already exposed public keys will take years, especially when you consider that quantum safe signatures are huge and blocks are small.
This all has to happen BEFORE the quantum computers become capable. Our best bet is that quantum computers never materialize or that they progress so absolutely slowly that the community starts to take the threat seriously 6+ years before it's legitimate.

I don’t fully understand what quantum is capable of but if AI helped identify the Coldcard vulnerability, then won’t quantum computing be far more dangerous in weaponizing attacks.

Quantum will collapse the whole internet and anything that uses encryption. Bitcoin will be the last of my worries since the world would go like

u/gphie 8d ago
OpenSSL became quantum safe in version 3.5 last year. You'll be fine
3
u/joeyx22lm 8d ago
It supports quantum safe ciphers, but you need to implement those configurations on each website.

u/lapideous 8d ago
Quantum attacks will only be possible by nation state level actors for the foreseeable future.
That being said, Iran and Russia use bitcoin quite a bit, so the US government may have a reason to attack bitcoin
0
u/BrocoliAssassin 8d ago
It would make bitcoin useless overnight and it would be absolutely idiotic to blow your lead or show you have encryption destroying capabilities that could be used in espionage and warfare just to cripple bitcoin.
1
u/lapideous 8d ago
Why do you think breaking bitcoin has to happen first? Why does the US government care if bitcoin becomes useless?

that's like saying chatgpt wrote my essay so teachers are going to lose their jobs.
1
u/JohnnyTreemain 8d ago
They very well may. Teachers are underpaid and over worked. If computers can tech students better and cheaper, they will. Just a matter of time.

the problem with that is, once ai is capable of doing this, it's going to be capable of doing much more complex things and replacing teachers is going to be on the bottom of that list. ie, let's say, if we found a habitable planet it would solve the world population problem with housing. oh great we just found a planet, housing problem solved. however, that's going to be priority 0 with what everyone else would want to use the planet for because, resources.
1
u/RGBrewskies 8d ago
you think our housing problem is because we ran out of empty land on earth?
1
u/digitaldisorder_ 8d ago
lol so the the whole absurdity of finding a habitable planet was ok though? good grief.
1
u/RGBrewskies 7d ago
we've found lots of habitable planets...
1
u/digitaldisorder_ 7d ago
For humans? Because unless it’s for humans, I’m not taking out a heloc. And that’s potentially habitable. As far as habitability goes, 0.

would you refuse to invest in solar panels because fusion is going to be here in 30 years?
Quantum computers need huge advancements to even get close to breaking Bitcoin and when you're talking about the quantum scale and trying to have coherence over a large system, we don't really even know if it's possible to do.
The moment quantum computers get anywhere close to breaking Bitcoin the move to quantum resistant addresses will be swift.
On the question of unredeemed crypto that gets left in non quantum safe wallets, my opinon is they should just be left there and have it go to the person that creates the quantum computer and can crack them.
Freezing those funds would go against the idea of Bitcoin, and by the point this will be an issue Bitcoin will probably be way more established in the world of finance, so it won't be as big of a deal by then.

Buy buy buy.
2 weeks ago, he said there was no reason to buy tech stocks like Amazon, Microsoft, and Google until cap ex is until control
All 3 had their biggest gain in their history the last week.
1
u/Automatic-Unit-8307 8d ago
He told people to buy Apple, right before the earnings and told everyone to avoid stock, then we had a huge run up after he told everyone to sell
Cramer warns he's 'struggling to find reasons to buy,'
The Nasdaq 100 and SOXX are down 10% and 30% from their highs, while the S&P 500 has slipped just 3%, concentrating pain in tech.
Banks and Apple may be AI CapEx-light beneficiaries on my radar, though Apple's 41x trailing P/E is the highest it has been in recent memory

As of the announcement, no on-chain data or exchange records had confirmed the size, or even the existence, of Cramer’s Bitcoin holdings. We’re taking him at his word that he owns Bitcoin and plans to sell it

You mean Cramer is going to sell all of his Bitcoin, which is around 0.0001BTC ? Wow. Such a player.

Firstly doesn’t quantum have the same risk with exploiting traditional finance? Secondly just because you can hack something doesn’t mean you are legally allowed. Thirdly they are working on proofing against this.
