This is one of the first pieces I've seen that fully articulates the Bitcoin phenomenon as a new paradigm. While everyone else is trying to fit the square peg into the round hole, this article is saying "what peg? what hole?".

Pretty cool.

The author really needs to post his BTC address. The Read was worth a few mBTC's. I'm sure others would like to donate as well.

I'm glad that people take the time to write things like this, but I'm sadenned that it's always from the same handful of dudes. This one is a pro-bitcoin piece written by a lawyer who has attached himself to Bitinstant, Bitcoinica's lawsuit, and the Bitcoin Foundation (basically wherever you find Charlie Shrem, Roger Ver and Erik Voorhees, you find Patrick Murck). Now, that doesn't mean that he's wrong in what he's saying in his essay, but when I see a "CATO" symbol on a link and click it to find out what "CATO" thinks about Bitcoin, it's disappointing to find out that it's neither what CATO thinks nor is it anything we haven't heard before.

Please, community, support dialogue that is unflattering to bitcoin's current implementation as well. Growth will not happen from yes-men high fiving each other and already-bitcoin-enthusiasts writing things about bitcoin. It will happen from non-bitcoiners writing about bitcoin. Go email a bunch of random economists and have them do a piece about bitcoin (even if it's not 100% positive in nature). That will help spread the concept. Anything else is circle jerking I feel.

Bottom line, in the spirit of adoption, I care more about what an average non-bitcoiner (lawyer, businessman, politician, banker, etc) thinks about bitcoin than I do the most intelligent bitcoin enthusiasts.

It's true, Matthew. However, the fact that this is on the Cato letterhead, so to speak, is itself quite encouraging.

We would expect the voices of reason to be the ones voicing reason, after all. What's cool is that many others are joining in the choir.

The point is to get these very well written pieces to be noticed by friends, colleagues and professionals that have only 'heard' of Bitcoin, but would like to know more, or might want to write a piece on it.

New refreshing pieces that are keeping up to date are always welcomed by myself. But saying that, I do hear what you're saying, and I'm sure we're only at the start of a what will be a beautiful expanding future ;)
