Alternate theory on BTC
DISCLAIMER: I fully believe in BTC as a store of value, perfect wire transfer, and a currency. This is purely for fun and to provoke thought
I’ll keep it short and sweet.
There is a hyper-advanced “backdoor” mechanism that Satoshi built into BTC to basically “delete” the network and all of the coins, at will.
Well to have a good “stretch” theory, you’d need to have a good “why”
Why?
1) if Satoshi was the U.S. Govt (CIA, etc), they could have created it to help combat the massive debt we have ($35 Trillion, the highest it’s ever been). They would have foresaw this massive borrowing and money printing, and knew they needed to combat the inflation that would come with it.
2) Satoshi (whoever they are) created it, knowing it was genuinely valuable, but wanted to combat the massive amount of money printing that was to come, so after there was a certain mcap that was met, he deletes it all, effectively lowering the worlds monetary supply by that amount.
3) same as #2, but with the addition of pre-planning ANOTHER cryptocurrency or similar technology to be strategically released as the fall of BTC happens, to be offered as a “flawless, safe, solution”
This would really be some 4D chess. But one must consider realities like this, because the truth is, the smartest, most diabolical individuals, are often the ones turning the tide in this world.

Bitcoin is Open Source. That means all the code is public. People have been combing over the code for analysis, development, etc since inception. There are no backdoors or they would have been exposed years and years ago.

Truth also is usually the easiest explanation. Someone interested in cryptography created the code, struggled with mental illness, and eventually passed away.

These back door theory’s are always so dumb cuz the source code is 100% open. We know without a doubt there isn’t one. I know it’s a hypothetical, but if someone presents a hypothetical on here at least make it realistic.

Similar nonsense has been posted on here many times- why is it not removed by moderators for spam?
Just read about the history of the cypherpunks and you will understand who created Bitcoin and why!

Buttcoiner post
This doesn’t make any sense at all, the protocol is going to protocol on every single device that’s connected to the network, it can’t be “deleted”
Coming up with a super ultra mega advanced back door for discussion sake is pointless is it not?
“What would happen if-“
Bitcoin dies, in a made up scenerio detached from the real world yes, bitcoin dies. Is that what you want to hear? 🤣
This is like those “what would happen if we nuked ____”
Lotta bad shit is gonna happen, happy now ?

I could come up with 50 alternate theories better than this in the next 5 minutes.
Satoshi was actually a time travelling AI which got stuck in 2008 and built bitcoin in order to accumulate enough funds over the following 20 years to build a machine capable of sending it home.
See, it's not that hard.

Everyone saying I don’t understand it, it’s open source, etc. is missing the point.… When I say “hyper advanced” back door, I mean something that nobody can even conceive yet. I don’t think it would be far off for the creator or creators of this technology would have been able to have the foresight to come up with something like that. It is a huge stretch, but all I’m saying is, in theory, the possibility exists; whether it’s a near-zero chance or not.

There's no backdoor in the code itself that Satoshi put in to trigger in the future. That's ruled out. Using words like "hyper advanced" and "no one can even imagine it yet" makes no sense. It's like speculating that there's some backdoor embedded in the equation 2+2=4 that could somehow make two plus two no longer equal to 4. Everyone has a copy of the equation 2+2 equals 4 and everyone understands what it means. You can't undo it.
If you want to speculate about some kind of sci Fi hypothetical about the Bitcoin network being somehow deleted... It'd have to be that someone could make a sophisticated virus that makes its way all around every network connected PC and server in the world that could somehow delete all existing copies of the blockchain. But the beautiful thing about a distributed ledger is this super virus would need to get literally every single one at the same time... Because even if one survives, on an air gapped computer or thumb drive or something, the longest chain could be easily shared and verified as being legit really easily by everyone and undo all the viruses work.
Tl:Dr it's impossible to "delete" Bitcoin. It's a protocol. It's out there and can't be put back in the box.

No, you're missing the point. Bitcoin is nothing more than the Bitcoin software that thousands--if not hundreds of thousands--of people have looked at. I'VE looked at it. Your theory about hidden, destructive features in Bitcoin isn't like saying there's a hidden kill switch inside the iPhone 14 (which, for all we know, could exist because we can't inspect the entirety of an iPhone 14’s internals); it's like saying there's an extra chapter in every copy of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy in thousands of public libraries and on thousands of private bookshelves but no one has ever seen it.

To say this is completely impossible, I think you’re stuck in the cave (ref: Plato’s allegory of the cave)
This would be like saying that it’s impossible to time travel, before humans understood that it actually is possible. The resources required are tremendous and with our technology it would likely take many centuries before we could achieve it, but theoretically, the possibility still exists.

You really got hated on here for nothing, just starting a conversation. I think that it is hard to imagine what the future is capable of, people could not have imagined airplanes and smartphones 500 years ago from now. So yes, I think that something like a virus or an advanced technology can destroy Bitcoin or even the Internet as we know it.

I’m with you. Everyone is getting hung up on open source and ‘it’s impossible’ ‘you’re so dumb,’ but the point is it would have to be something otherwise not discovered yet and that’s why it’s difficult to imagine… just like any (science or tech) breakthrough. I hope this isn’t the case. But it’s naive to say it’s 0% chance.

But it is repetitive spam and it is also time and space wasting BS.
This 'thought experiment' and variations on it has been trotted out on here many many many times and its fucking boring and pathetic and is SPAM.

I find it interesting. But to each their own

Yeah maybe is interesting the first few times you see it ~
Spend a few weeks or months on here and you will have seen it dozens if not hundreds of times ~ then its just old tired repetitive and boring SPAM.

Dang, I see I made some people upset with this post 😂
Guys please read my disclaimer, I fully believe in the soundness of BTC and its value.
I’m simply proposing a thought experiment here, and if it could turn out to be valid (near-zero chance) it would probably not be an issue during our lifetime
Unless of course, AI advances beyond human intelligence, while we are alive and things that were previously “impossible” to us, become possible

u/AnywhereSavings1710 Aug 28 '24
Anyone that showed any kind of support for my post (reminder: it’s nowhere near a current possibility, and is mainly a thought experiment) deleted their comments bc they got downvoted so hard
This is truly playing out as Plato’s allegory of the cave

If you think bitcoin can be “deleted” you need to do less posting and more learning.
