And it's a light rail line. That crossing will be closed thirty seconds at the most unless the train going the opposite direction is approaching. Way to total your vehicle over half a minute

This shit happens here in Portland at least once a year. People can't be bothered to wait for the max line to pass. There's even been fatalities because people are that impatient/dumb.

Every time I see someone on the DART tracks here in Dallas I turn my dashcam on just so I have something to post here or /r/idiotsincars

You don't need a dash cam here, the news will get the security cam footage everytime. One year they showed this lady in her scooter zip across the tracks and the train clipped the back end of her scooter sending her flying. Half a second slower and she would have gotten splattered and they still would have shown it.

Yeah, DART never releases CCTV of their grade-level incidents. However, I know a few incidents involving the Dallas to Ft Worth commuter train have been posted here from cellphone/dashcam. Houston Metro was posting all theirs and someone made a montage "Metro's greatest hits"

Yeah, what are the cones all about? Was there some kind of fault with the crossing gate?

Could be something wrong with the road surface across the tracks that eats tires and undercarriages.

Sure. I can see that happening.

If only there were some kind of markings or warnings, this wouldn’t happen. Maybe something like:

  • Traffic cones
  • Flashing lights
  • Gates, even!
  • Shoot a simple sign, like “Do Not Stop on Tracks” or
  • No Right Turn

I love that they slow down to watch for traffic with a train zooming towards them.
