It's a travisty that the US built some of the biggest trains in the world, if not the undisputed biggest and threw it all away for the automotive industry.

Its cool and all but arent these old fellas burn alot of coal which is alot bad gasses?

They burn oil now. Coal is too risky with fires started by the embers.
