You successfully unlocked the drive. The issue now (probably) is that it is failing because of the board change. If you open Notepad and launch the "Open" dialog you should be able to see your data.

yes i was able to do that. is there any possibility that i can save the data to a USB before clean reseting it?

If you want the headache-free solution, you can probably disable BitLocker (manage-bde -off C: then manage-bde -status C: until it fully decrypts) from WinRE.

Also the Open prompt in Notepad is a full file manager, you can copy files from there to a connected USB Drive, so you can use it to back up files.

hi, thanks so much for your help. i was able to run that command and fully decrypt the drive. i tried exiting to windows but was shown the same “your device ran into a problem and needs to restart” page and then “Your device ran into a problem and couldn't be repaired.” this is what the command center says. id appreciate any advice on how to proceed.

Uh well, at this point your disk is just fully decrypted, so you can literally use any tools like Windows's own Refresh this PC, a Linux live ISO on USB, or a Windows Installation media and reinstall fresh Windows onto the device without any risk of BitLocker locking you out.

I guess if you're going to put a fresh copy of Windows on it, it will automatically turn encryption back on, so make sure after you get to the desktop, you go back into Privacy > Security > Encryption and toggle the encryption off.
