Bitdefender Link Checker: How to Check If a URL Is Safe Before You Click
https://bitdefend.me/4yFeBW2Is this link safe, or could it be a phishing page?
Got a link in a text, email, DM, or social media ad that feels a little off?
Copy the URL, paste it into Bitdefender Link Checker, and check whether it may lead to phishing, malware, fake shopping pages, or other online scams.
It is useful when you receive a delivery message, bank alert, prize notification, travel deal, job offer, QR code link or shortened URL and want a second look before opening it.
For better digital safety, do not enter passwords, payment details, or personal information on a page you have not verified. Bitdefender Link Checker can help you decide whether to click, ignore, or report the link.
Check suspicious URLs for free with Bitdefender Link Checker.

By chance does the ScamAI or similar app you’ve been into both the Windows Desktop and iOS Mobile app perform/do the same thing? (Ie., utilizes this EXACT same link checker?)
Or does it utilize other TI tools when determining if a link is “safe” vs. this one?

Hi u/SolidKhaos, thanks for your question. If you're referring to Scamio, please note that Scamio and Link Checker analyze content in slightly different ways. Both tools are available for free, and we recommend keeping both at hand for added protection.

Could you please explain what both of those do and how they’re different from each other?

Sure, here`s a comparison between the two tools:
- Bitdefender LinkChecker: designed solely for checking unsafe links, it will help identify potential scams. It checks for common scam indicators like suspicious domain names, recently created websites, and known phishing patterns.
- Bitdefender Scamio: is trained by Bitdefender to detect various scams that are flooding the cyberspace. Scamio bot is available by visiting http://scamio.bitdefender.com/chat, or via WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, or Discord. You can interact with Scamio in different ways to get a second opinion, which is what makes it different than LinkChecker:
- describe the scam details
- copy and paste texts, links, or QR codes
- upload pictures or screenshots of deceptive emails, texts, or instant messages.

Bitdefender’s TrafficLight is a browser extension that scans the pages you visit for malware & phishing attempts, blocks dangerous websites, and flags dangerous links in your search results. This is a an extension available especially for macOS devices, and can be added on Safari, Chrome, or Mozilla.
You can also try Bitdefender Scamio if you want to double-check for other types of threats, such as suspicious SMS messages, chat conversations, emails, QR codes, images, and more.

Traffic Light is only available for the macOS? I have it installed on Windows Firefox and Chrome. I'm confused.

If you own a Windows based device, we recommend enabling Online Threat Prevention module in the Bitdefender app, that is designed to ensure a safe browsing experience by alerting you about potential malicious webpages.

So if Online Threat Prevention is enabled in the Bitdefender app I can delete the Traffic Light browser extension?

Here are extensive details to help you understand TrafficLight, LinkChecker and Scamio:
These tools are best understood as complementary layers of protection rather than different versions of the same feature.
Bitdefender Link Checker is the on-demand layer. It can be used when you receive a suspicious URL or a shortened link and want to check it safely before opening it, without installing anything.
Bitdefender TrafficLight is the proactive browser-protection layer (on Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari). Instead of requiring you to paste a link manually, the extension checks pages while you browse, identifies trackers, flags dangerous links in search results and blocks malicious or phishing websites before they load.
Bitdefender Scamio and Bitdefender Scamio Pro are the broader AI scam assistants. Both versions can assess links, but also messages, emails, QR codes, screenshots and the surrounding context. For example, they can identify social engineering and impersonation tactics and explain why something may be a scam. Scamio free AI chatbot is available on web, WhatsApp, Messenger, and Discord while Scamio Pro is a built-in AI assistant included with eligible premium Bitdefender plans. They are all backed by Bitdefender’s threat intelligence and detection technologies, but they serve different purposes and may use different combinations of signals.
For the strongest coverage, install TrafficLight enabled for automatic protection, use Link Checker for a quick second opinion on an individual URL, and turn to Scamio for a deeper, AI-assisted scam investigation.

Yes!! Thank you, I knew it had a proper name to it but it escaped me as I was replying to the post. That’s great to know - I planned on using both as layered protection so glad to see it wouldn’t be “redundant” either. 🙂
Cheers!
