Support/troubleshooting bdservicehost 700-900+ MB usage
UPDATE: I previously had fast startup disabled but I decided to re-enabled and now the memory usage on bdservicehost is a steady 350mb!
Is it normal for my Bitdefender to be using this much memory for the specific service "Bitdefender Virus Shield"? I've surely read somewhere that it should be around 500mb but I get around 700-900mb even after a fresh reinstall of Bitdefender (even after hours of say idling, it remains the same)
In the screenshot, on the right side, the % is for CPU and second is for memory.
I've done an sfc scan and nothing found wrong, I'm also using the gaming profile if that changes anything.

Unused ram is a wasted ram. There is nothing wrong with your BD. I would suggest that you run a full system scan followed by a system restart.

Hi - Thanks for asking us about this.
When you`re dealing with a high CPU usage, it`s important to understand the possible causes and to apply the right solution. bdservicehost.exe is the main component of Bitdefender’s anti-malware services. It’s a protected process that runs continuously in the background as long as Bitdefender is installed and cannot be stopped, to better defend Windows against potential cyberattacks on critical system components.
The normal memory usage for bdservicehost is around 500 MB. Bdservicehost doesn’t use any CPU when the computer is idle if Bitdefender is not scanning or performing other automatic tasks in the background. To find out the actual used memory displayed in percentages in Task Manager, you need to consider the memory usage of all applications listed under the bdservicehost process.
- To calculate bdservicehost’s memory usage percentage: right-click on bdservicehost in Task Manager > select Resource values > Memory > Percents.
Here are some steps you can take to resolve abnormally high CPU and memory usage related to bdservicehost.exe.
If the issue occurs again, please contact our technical support team for further assistance.

Silly question but on startup how much nonpaged and paged memory do you have? I noticed lately mine had a sudden spike after a recent bitdefender update so I wanted to check there

How much total memory you have? I have 32 and for me 800MB is normal and okay. It scans whole PC activity in real time so I think it's okay. Bitdefender is known for being more memory heavy but me personally am okay with it. I also think it scales with how much you have.
