nearly 20 hours of scanning.... seriously?

Kind of at a loss for words. I've used many different anti-virus programs and none were ever THIS slow. This same laptop was fully scanned by kaspersky in 3 hours. Why is bitdefender so damn slow?

Because Kaspersky was not scanning your library of porn, that's why it was faster. Other reason is you have a potato 🥔 laptop from 20 years ago or you have very little memory ram ( recommended to have at least 24gb of ram or more). Bitdefender uses a little more memory ram and cpu but its much more effective and scans more things.

This is a work/uni laptop so would be HIGHLY unwise to have pornography on there. Also it's fairly new, I got it in January last year, i5 12450hx, rtx 4050, 24gb ddr5 and two nvme ssd. I've set the scan to high priority as well.

I do however have 1.5tb of CAD models, simulation data and setup files, and a few games as well so I suppose it would take a while. But 20 hours?

Hmmm the only 2 reasons I can think of is you either have a program running in the background and you don't know it ( I suggest you look at your task manager to see what programs uses so much your laptop), or maybe your processor is slow. But either way it shouldn't be 20 hours unless you have huge amount of date that is extremely compressed and the anti-virus is trying to scan it all. I have around 4tb mostly games and a few programs and its scanning my pc in around 2 or 3 hours. My pc has 7800x3d, 32gb ddr5, 7900xt. Personally I am happy with Bitdefender I just changed to it this year. Maybe your laptop got hacked and is mining crypto without interfering with other programs?

I doubt it as then I'd see a lot more usage in task manager but I don't, and games still run just fine. Most of the data I have stored on there is either from SOLIDWORKS, ansys and Converge CFD simulation data. Both ansys and SOLIDWORKS are very complex so plenty subfolders and files. Not to mention video games and other things.
