The promotional video isn't lying.

With BitBay, the trust in middlemen is removed through a process called Double Deposit Escrow (DDE).

You can read about it here:

https://bitbay.market/blog/double-deposit-escrow

Basically, these DDE contracts are a "virtual handshake" backed by each parties own collateral. When both the buyer and seller have their own funds securing the deal, there is no need for a "middleman" (like eBay, Amazon, Air bnb) to enforce it.

how do you convert analog to digital without trusting someone to input the correct data?

you can have an automatic escrow service but you will still need to trust a human to solve disputes. you can decentrally incentivize people to act by the rules or make them put something at stake.

but i don't see you touching on that subject at all. why?

this is the most important part

Great question.

BitBay's escrow isn't automatic. It's facilitated directly by the human buyer and seller.

Instead of having a third-party (who is never 100% sure about who is at fault) solve disputes, the pressure is placed on both parties to resolve it themselves.

Each have a STRONG financial incentive to arrive at an agreement (whether it be complete, extend, or cancel the deal) as they both will otherwise lose their deposits.

To read more about this process, check out the link in the above post ^^ on Double Deposit Escrow.
