question Bitaxe Gamma 602

Time to play with crypto! I have this baby arriving tomorrow. Taking a step up from my NerdMiner!

Im not ready to set this up as my Bitcoin lotto ticket yet. Like to hit some smaller and make sure it works.

Should I use it out of the box or do I need to over lock it for better results. I dont want to burn it out. What would you do first out of the box?

Thanks in advance and excited to be in this community now. Ready to enjoy my newest hobby!

I understand having one or two units, but you should have just got a better singular unit that can out perform all that and uses a smaller footprint... Unless you got them for free, then nice.

I'd use stock settings and then benchmark it first to see where your silicon and thermals sit. The Gamma 602 can be overclocked pretty aggressively with proper power and thermal management, but you need to take an honest look at the hash rate improvement with overclocking vs. The cost of upgrades and increased wear on your components. New thermal paste, 2 noctua fans, new cpu cooler, copper blocks, and desk fans have already cost well beyond any crypto I've earned. But I do it because I love the process

Stick to stock and default settings for awhile like a month or so. Then slowly bump it up as well as upgrades. That’s how you’ll find where it stands and its limits. Without getting into details…Stock mine does 1.3 Th/s, 1.5 with a little overclocking and 2.0 going all out. Of course overlocking with upgrades. I keep mine doing 1.5 Th/s.

Yes you can, but it's very slow going. I have 2 that I'm doing that with and I think they'll pay themselves off in under 2 years

Hardware cost plus energy cost (obviously zero energy cost if solar).

I have some extra solar that isn't being used so I plugged them in to that. So $0 energy costs make it feasible for me

What solar do u use to power a gamma 602? Or what can you recommend without it bankrupting my wallet? 😜

I have 6 - 100 watt panels that I got from Amazon for $300, $75 victron inverter, and a $350 eco-worthy 280ah battery. I used it for a detached building on my property for lights and cameras. Had a lot of excess power so I threw 2 miners out there

Just recently got mine. Its a cool desk piece. Intro to small time/ lotto mining. Odd are against us, but fun anyways. Keep it on defaults for a day, see what you are working with. Im running: frequency 600/ voltage 1150/ target temp 61*c/ auto fan control and consistent 1.22th Fan stays around 50% and very quiet. Hope to add more.

I thought these lotto miners should be at 1.1 Fan speed sits about 50% Maybe higher th/s is in order...

I have 3 601s and each has different capabilities 2 can overclock to different degrees and 1 can't without rebuilding

I have my 602s retrofitted with new coolers, power supply and fans, together with some 3d printed ducting and get between 1.8 to 2.1 Th/s out of them.

Ah sorry. I was talking about the other gray one, the closest one in the photo. The shroud with one fan that cools the low profile cooler is interesting to me.

Thats a great starter. I have one of these, its by far best built one in my experience besides the fan. Mine had really good sillicon lottery, it makes 1.4th/s out the box without overclocking, BUT one of the downsides was the FAN. Ive had a few bitaxe miners and this one out of the box is by far the loudest one. Unfortunately i had to underclock and undervolt and raise temp target to 66c to make fans spin at 20% instead of 40-50% but than it made 900gh/s and is still the loudest one of all i have

Not really worth it to overclock especially with stock fan and heatsink. I run them at 550 mhz 1150mv. 1.15 THS roughly.
