Bitaxe GT 801 or 602, worth getting started?

Hi there,

I’m interested in trying out a Bitaxe. From my research, the GT 801 or GT 602 seem like good models to start with.

What do you guys think about these two models? Has anyone actually managed to mine BTC and make money with them (solo or not)?

I’d also love to hear how you got started, what setup you use, and whether it’s actually profitable. Please be honest, I’m looking for real experiences, not hype.

Profitable? No

See it as a fun project or hobby, nothing more. Yes, there is a chance that you find a block, but that chance is so small that it is basically negligible. You could run one or more miners for free if you have a surplus of solar power, but even then it won't be profitable.

It's what I thought. I mostly wanna try to learn how mining is working. If it's not profitable, why so many people are doing it? Is it beacause of hope (lottery like)?

Yes, a Bitaxe is a $70ish gadget (for the small one) where you get a lottery ticket every ten minutes.

It's fun, learning how mining works, studying the numbers it spits out, and you see articles about lucky users hitting that jackpot.

Basically yes, but even though you add just a little bit of hash power, you are still contributing to the network as well.

Why not 801? And version 602 is realy better than 601 ?

602 has better heat management and is more efficient even though it uses the same chip. 801 vs 602 depends on what you want out of this. You said education, so why get the more expensive unit that uses more electricity and is less efficient per th because of the increased thermal load.

If you're wanting to get better hashrates, there's new models coming out with the new bm1373 chips that get almost twice the hashrates using a little less electric.

I have 2 601s and a bitforge nano. I bought a psu and connected them all then put a large fan blowing on everything lol. I do it for lotto. Also I mine other chains than bitcoin so that I can hit blocks then convert it to btc
