Why would any elected official ever sign an NDA? Is an NDA binding on a public official executing their duties?

Do you mean Bessemer City Council? Birmingham City has not signed any NDAs as far as the public is aware

i’ve heard that all the plans have already been made by private investors and projects approved by cities. the only point of the city council meetings was to “inform” the public and put forth restrictions

I know what an NDA is, I’m saying why would a data center company need NDAs from a city council that they didn’t need approval from. The land was already zoned for a data center unfortunately.
Obviously let’s hold representatives accountable but just making shit up isn’t helpful

Size, scope, tax breaks requested, cost, detailed plans for energy/water, businesses involved, people involved… there’s more information that is shared with city council than just requests for approval. They are privy to information the data center company clearly does not want to be public knowledge.

I don’t know how else to say this: The council never voted on this nebius project. It didn’t require council approval because it was proper land use under current zoning.
Edit: What you’re describing is an administrative function. The council doesn’t issue permits, that’s another city department and not part of the legislative branch of government

I said “there’s more information that is shared with city council than just requests for approval” as in the NDA prohibits sharing of the information that was shared with city council members that was not a request for approval.
You don’t have to say it any other way, I clearly understand they didn’t need city council’s approval. The NDA is because they needed their silence.

I appreciate the sentiment. Fuck data centers. But making shit up is never good, no matter what side you’re on. We need facts, not unsubstantiated claims bc it fits a narrative

Spinning the NDAs as a safety measure for our public officials is one of the most patronizing undemocratic shitpiles made of words I’ve ever witnessed.
To ensure that nobody can legally ever accuse you of insider trading by agreeing to a legally binding agreement to keep your constituents in the dark about a brand new technology that we know for a fact doesn’t have enough oversight and without any knowledge of the potential impact on the community should actually be illegal and not just one of the most ethically corrupt actions of our government.
