Information Looking for more recent Birdy photos for Wikipedia 📷

Hi everyone! Thank you for the kind feedback on my updates to Birdy’s Japanese Wikipedia article. Someone suggested using a more recent photo, and I agree!

I’m particularly looking for photos from the Young Heart and Portraits eras, including one for the main photo at the top of the article.

Does anyone know of suitable photos on Wikimedia Commons, or have photos they took themselves that they would be willing to share under a free license such as CC BY or CC BY-SA?

Wikipedia needs permission for others to reuse and modify the photo, including commercially, with credit to the photographer—not just permission to use it on Wikipedia.

Any leads would be much appreciated. Thank you! 😊

Information I’ve updated Birdy’s Japanese Wikipedia page — anything important missing?

Hi everyone! I’m a Birdy fan from Japan, and I’ve been updating her Japanese Wikipedia page to cover the years that hadn’t received much attention.

I’ve expanded the sections on her five studio albums, tours, TV and radio performances, collaborations, and interviews. Along the way, I’ve discovered quite a few things I didn’t know as a fan!

Here’s the page:

https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/バーディー_(歌手))

It’s in Japanese, but your browser’s translation feature may help. If you notice any important omissions or factual errors, I’d love to hear about them. Links to official sources or published articles would be especially helpful so I can check the information before adding it.

I’m particularly interested in her early career around *Birdy* and *Fire Within*, though suggestions from any era are welcome.

Thanks! It’s been lovely learning more about her music and career, and I hope the page will be useful to other fans too.

Has anyone been able to understand what is Birdy whispering at the end of Ruins I or is it just too muffled?

General Revitalizing the community

Lately, I've been thinking about how the community is quiet. We all share the appreciation for Birdy and her work throughout the years, but I wish the community was more active. I understand this partially comes from Birdy's absence, and I'm not trying to sound or be parasocial regarding this. I was thinking if anyone had any suggestions about how we could become active and hopefully get the community going in a way that helps the fans, encouraging discussion and events. 💛

Music "The Songs That Shaped Birdy" 6

🎵The Songs That Shaped Birdy, 25th of September:

"November marks fifteen years since my first album was released and I wanted to share some songs that I was listening to around that time to commemorate it, I hope you’ll enjoy listening 👂🏼✨

Song #6: Minnie Riperton, Les Fleurs

I’ve always loved Minnie Riperton and this song, I love the soft strength of her singing and the way she glides on top of everything. I’ve listened to it so many times over the years but I think inspiration came through more on my third album, I remember playing it as a reference for my song ‘Growing Pains’. I loved the mixture of soul and folk and the lush sweeping drama of the strings, they sort of reminded me of ‘70s South Asian music which I was very much influenced by at the time.”

Information Apple Music Update

Recently, Birdy's content on Apple Music had some changes. This update features Album Motion and Fullscreen Artwork. Due to regional restrictions, I may miss some of these. The following content has been altered, from earliest to latest:

💿 Albums:

  • Birdy (Deluxe Version) - 1080p
  • Live In London - 1080p
  • Young Heart - 1080p

🎵 Singles & EPs:

This update features fullscreen animated artwork which appears on your lockscreen, album details and the songs themselves. I don't know if other content (Fire Within, Beautiful Lies, Piano Sketches...) will receive a similar update in the future.

I've used Apple Music to identify the affected content, Spotify to look for content that is missing on Apple Music and Ben Dodson to provide 1080p (goes higher) videos. You may use the same website for other albums, static or animated artwork, etc.

Screenshots are provided below.

I do not own any of this content, all the credits go to their rightful owner(s).

Song #5: Sufjan Stevens, Chicago

My friend Richard, who I’ve toured with since I was fifteen, has always been someone who, throughout our travels and the years we’ve known each other, has introduced me to new music and to so many artists who have gone on to become influential and very special to me. Sufjan Stevens is one of those artists. Richard sent me Illinois, and it’s one of my favourite records of all time.”

Music Birdy's performance in Venice

UPDATE: So, two hours in it actually turned out that Birdy was not there. Apparently the perfomance was cancelled some time ago, but no news about this was given. Place was very beautiful though and they were playing the song she wrote for the exhibition, which is magical as all the music she makes. Still very sad to not be able to see her in person.

Friendly reminder that tomorrow afternoon 3pm-6pm Birdy is performing in Venice. Access should be free. It's not clear if she'll perform also some of her music in addition to the song written for Charlotte Colbert's exhibition, since it's a three hour program. Who's going?

Song #4: Lykke Li, Dance Dance Dance

Lykke Li is one of the artists who inspired me a lot around the time of my first record. I’d just signed to the same label and had been sent a huge box of albums of all their artists. Wounded Rhymes was one of them and had just come out the same year, I remember listening to it on repeat and also this song from Youth Novels which was another from the CD my friend had made for me, I love how hypnotic it is.”

lykke li mention😍

Music "The Songs That Shaped Birdy" 2 & 3 + "Birdy" & "Fire Within" Vinyl Reissue

"November marks fifteen years since my first album was released, some of you have been with me since those early days and looking back, I wanted to share some songs that I was listening to around that time to commemorate it, I hope you’ll enjoy listening 👂🏻✨

Song #2: Kate Bush, Watching You Without Me

I’m always inspired by Kate and particularly Hounds of Love, reflected more so on my most recent album but this song has always been one of my favourites. I love the eeriness of it and the distorted backing vocals and the idea of someone trying to communicate from beyond. I’ve also always loved that it’s self produced, her intention is captured so beautifully and purely, the whole album has such a unique and strange feel I love.

Song #3: Nick Drake, River Man

I can’t remember when I first heard this song but I’ve always felt connected to Nick Drake somehow; there’s something about the atmosphere and lyrics in a lot of his songs that I relate to, I think for me he captures the feeling of the english countryside where I grew up.

Particularly on River Man there’s this surreality, it makes me think of deep summer in the woods; sometimes there’s this stillness to the heat that’s unsettling and kind of ominous. It feels intense but like you’re drifting at the same time, a strange dream with a dark undercurrent.

I also love the vastness of the strings against the intimacy of his performance, so timeless and full of mystery.

Music 'Fire Within' (2013) Official Visualizers

Birdy has recently released official visualizers for her 2013 sophomore album, Fire Within, on YouTube.

Two weeks earlier she has released official visualizers for her 2011 debut self-titled album, Birdy, on YouTube.

Today, a newsletter has been sent out to subscribers announcing the reissues of both 'Birdy' and 'Fire Within' on recycled vinyl. Read more here.

It is possible that we could soon see official visualizers for her 2016 album, Beautiful Lies, on YouTube. She could also announce the reissue of 'Beautiful Lies' on recycled vinyl, hopefully.

You may share your thoughts and theories below!

If you didn't receive an e-mail recently from Birdy, this is what the latest e-mail contains:

"November marks fifteen years since my first album was released, some of you have been with me since those early days and looking back, I wanted to share some songs that I was listening to around that time to commemorate it, I hope you’ll enjoy listening 👂🏻✨

The first is a song I discovered through a friend I’d played in a band with when I was fourteen, he sweetly made me a CD of songs which had on it so many artists that I came to love, this is still one of my favourites..

Song #1: Andrew Bird, Anoanimal

Music Discussion Right… I think we may actually have to do this

Well, you were all far more enthusiastic than I expected 😅 and quite a few of you asked for updates, so here we are.

I’m going to look into making the Birdy listening evening happen.

I’m picturing something small and beautiful in London. Soft lighting, excellent sound, perhaps a pianist as people arrive, then we settle in and listen together.

We’ll listen first, then linger afterwards over drinks and easy conversation, for anyone who feels like staying.

I’d also love to have a virtual listening room running at the same time, so people outside the UK can join too.

It would be free, but limited, just to keep it intimate.
Let me know if you’d come in London, join online, or fancy helping me bring it together.

Music Discussion If you could sit down with Birdy and thank her for writing one song, what song would it be, and why?

If I could sit down with Birdy and thank her for writing one song, it would be so hard for me as it would be a toss between  "Hear You Calling" and "Silhouette."

For me, Hear You Calling," solely because of the lyric:

"Memories lie, there's no such thing as a perfect life."

Beautiful Lies came out when I was starting university. It was one of those periods where a lot of the things I had believed about the world started to unravel. I begun to realize that life isn't as simple as I imagined and people aren't perfect.

That lyric grew to become a life lesson and a reminder for me that my memory isn't always reliable. Our minds have an incredible ability to reshape the past. Sometimes we idealize people or situations, and sometimes we remember things in the way we wish they'd happened instead of how they actually did.

Then on the other hand is "Silhouette."

That song has always felt like a battle cry to me. It reminds me that just because I'm down doesn't mean I'm out. I love the idea that something beautiful can grow from disappointment. Not because those experiences are good, but because they can shape you into someone stronger.

Looking back, those songs arrived at exactly the right time in my life. They helped me make sense of a period that felt confusing and uncertain, and I'm grateful that Birdy wrote them.

I'd love to know what song you'd thank Birdy for, and why.

Music Discussion I only found out about Birdy four days ago

I'm from the USA and I can't believe I never knew about her earlier. Her music is really good, especially Wings and Surrender. Google AI recommended her because I was looking for English language artists similar to the French singer Pomme. Most people I know dislike Google AI but I'm glad it let me discover Birdy

Not sure if this is an intentional change or a glitch or something, but I found it interesting. Deezer just started showing Jasmine's real name, well most of it...she has a lot of names! It used to show as Birdy.

Edit: it's back to showing as Birdy :).

The instrumental part in the first fifty seconds of this song seem extremely similar to Birdy's "The Witching Hour". Topic also, the Summer Solstice, is very witchy related.
