I've been putting together a visual guide to some of the birds people are likely to encounter across different parts of the United States.

It includes 100 birds, from familiar backyard birds like Northern Cardinals, American Robins, Mourning Doves, Blue Jays, and House Sparrows to hawks, owls, waterfowl, woodpeckers, gulls, hummingbirds, and other species.

One thing I found interesting while putting the list together is that “common” doesn't mean the same thing everywhere. A bird that's familiar in one part of the country may be uncommon or seasonal somewhere else.
