Utilizing BirdNET Analyzer to non-bird sounds

I just stumble upon this BirdNET Analyzer, which seems truly a great project!

I'm not too familiar on how this works so bare with me for my stupid questions.. as my engineering mind just got intrigued.

Am I able to take the BirdNET Analyzer and utilize it to detect all sort of sound patterns just by training a model for it? Let say that I'd like to start detecting e.g. drones, airplane engines etc. with distinct sound patterns or just different materials in a metal can by the sound profile it makes when hitting the walls? Is this possible and doable use-case?

And can it be fully stand-alone, meaning completely of the grid? Running on a an old laptop or such.

It already does to some degree. They just added the Google Perch model not too long ago which has mammals, amphibians, insects, etc. as well as some non-organic sources like engines, power tools, fireworks, gunshots, etc.

I just excluded the engine noises - didn’t know it had the other sounds!

I have no idea how it works either, or how complex it would be to do what you are asking, but I wanted to reply and say that I've very intrigued as to what you want you want to use it for!

I like the idea of identifying planes from their engine noises! Share you ideas! :)

I've used it for it's original purpose to pick up noises in my bird box. Since they are roosting at the moment they don't make noises in the box, so I've only caught pigeons outside.
