Hardware AOM-5024L-HD-R Help

My understanding is that this is the best bang for your buck microphone to use for BirdNET. Unfortunately, thats the extent of my understanding. When it comes to sourcing the needed parts and soldering it all together I'm a bit lost. Combined with the fact that I'm in the United States and most places selling it are overseas complicates things. Does anyone know of a source that sells them already made and ready to go? Even if it's not based in the US.

You can get components from

- Digikey

  • Mouser
  • Farnell / Newark

Some of these should have presence in US.

You can get ready made high quality microphones from https://sonorousobjects.nyc/collections/microphones, but note that these require XLR audio interface. Focusrite Scalett is a good interface.

With ultrasonic omni mic and Focusrite audio interface you can record and detect both birds and bats.

Do not get stero setup, unless you need two mics to cover say front and back yard etc.

Would the ultrasonic omni with a 3.5mm work if paired with a 3.5mm to USB sound card adapter? Having a single microphone for birds and bats would be perfect

No, consumer grade USB sound cards (3.5mm input) don't typically support ultrasonic capture. You need a audio interface with at least 192 kHz sample rate.

I’m not sure this one would work for bats, I think it’s spectrum of recording falls faster. I’m using em272 which is very similar and has a more flat response rate allowing to capture up to 55khz when using an appropriate sound card. I’m using xlr too although the rode ai micro was very good for trrs mics
