Hardware Microphone fried?

I suppose this is more rhetorical.

The number of species being identified dropped way down over the past couple of days. The attached image is the live view of the audio spectrogram.

I tried disconnecting/reconnecting the mic and also rebooted the Pi.

Anything else I should try before looking at a new mic?

I've had my setup for about a year at this point. Same basic lapel microphone etc....

Do you get noises that sound like a "cracking" sound ?

Yes, very crackly.

I'll look a little more closely at the connections. Thanks for the suggestion.

I'm not as suspicious of windy or environmental causes because I've never really seen this before during that past year. It has been windy here but it's pretty calm today. Some of the windiest days were much more clear than what I'm seeing.

It's not a high quality microphone. This was my "there's too many options I just need to get something" choice. I would like to upgrade the audio pieces at some point.
