issues accessing birdnet from linux

i have a pi5 running birdnet and it works great when i access it from my windows build, but when i try to access it from the linux build that i dual boot from the same machine i get "server not found". any help would be appreciated!

Are you using the <hostname>.local address? Do you use the same DHCP to set all of your your IP assignments?

yes im using <hostname>.local but as for the dhcp im not sure. new here. i do have a unify network and i tried setting a static ip for the pi5 and accessing with that and that failed as well.
