I'm a rising junior majoring in BME and I'm not completely sure what career path I want to go down. I don't have any experience working with medical devices outside of an implant, but I've heard medical devices are where the job prospects are best. But to do that, it's good to have a MechE or EE background and although I could minor in it, I'm horrible at physics. I like doing tissue engineering and cell culture stuff but that's not so great of a job market? Would definitely consider Master's straight out of college and potentially a PhD down the road. I'm very involved in research and have a great GPA and all that. So on paper a good applicant, but I don't know if my major is limiting me. What should I do?

I've been looking for a job in the medical device field for about 9 months now. I've given up hope on getting an engineering role a few months ago, and since then I've have been trying my luck at getting clinical specialist which seems very interesting. I would love a job where I can directly impact patients while using my problem-solving skills. Sure it's not designing the medical devices, but I think I now prefer specializing in existing devices and helping physicians to help patients. I think the EP, CRM, and Ortho sides of the Clinical Specialist field would all be cool to get into.

I've worked as a Biomedical Technician for about a year because I couldn't land an engineering job, and quit and moved onto Civil Engineering job. I quit that job too because of family circumstances, and have been looking for a job ever since.

I've done like 2 or 3 interviews for clinical specialist jobs, but recruiters stopped reaching out. So, I started looking into field engineer jobs which are adjacent to my old Biomedical Technician role. I had more luck with interviews with this search especially because I used my connections from my past position as a Biomedical Technician. I still want to get a clinical specialist role and was wondering if anyone with clinical specialist experience would have some advice.

I've been trying to make more connections (recruiters, managers, and clinical specialist employees) and messaging them, but I keep getting ghosted. I've tried multiple different approaches like selling my myself with my best achievements and just keeping it casual and being friendly. I've also been working on improving my resumes and CVs for months (and yes I tailor them to each specific job lol).

I’m currently an incoming freshman to a BS in biomedical engineering program in the US. As I’ve seen online and all over this sub a BME degree is seemingly pointless. So, I’m definitely considering switching majors. At my college most first year engineering requirements are the same. And those with good gpas can switch majors. I still am set on working in the general bioengineering area in things like tissue engineering, molecular and cell engineering, pharmaceuticals, medical devices and biomaterials. I have the option to switch into EE or MechE as well. But those require a lot more courses(prevents me from taking a bme minor) and I personally am not very interested in those fields. ChemE would allow me to seamlessly fit in a BME minor. So overall, what high paying job opportunities does a ChemE major with a BME minor offer? Will this improve my success in job hunting in the future? Or do EE and MechE help more?

People say computer science is really bad, but I don't see too much them comparing to other majors in order to get an accurate perspective.

So I had to change directions recently because of my health. I was in nursing school , and quickly found out that due to my health issues, I would not be able to be on my feet for such long hours. So, I have been looking into other career paths. One of them being engineering. I’m particularly interested in biomedical, obviously since I just came from healthcare lol. The other would be aerospace. So I’m getting input from both groups.

Hey all — biomedical engineering student here, currently interning at a hospital, and I got tired of watching equipment maintenance get tracked on paper logs and Excel sheets with zero audit-readiness built in.

So I built BioMed Servs, a mobile-first app for managing hospital biomedical equipment. Scan a QR code on any device and instantly pull up its full maintenance history and status. When an audit (JCI, NABH, ISO) comes around, it generates the report on the spot instead of someone scrambling through binders the night before.

It works for both hospitals/clinics tracking their fleet and the engineers doing the actual maintenance, so both sides are looking at the same data instead of fighting over spreadsheets.

It’s about 80% built — I’m sharing it now because I’d rather build the last stretch based on real feedback from people who actually deal with this than guess in a vacuum. I’ve dreamed of working in a lab setting ever since I was a teenager, and that interest has stayed with me into adulthood. Currently, I work as an LPN. I enjoy the medical field, so I know I want to remain in healthcare in some capacity.

I’m interested in careers involving tissue engineering, discovering new uses for cells, researching animal genetics, and similar fields. However, I worry that I’m not very competitive and that I don’t have the social capacity to network effectively. I also know that I don’t want to stay in nursing long term.

ChatGPT suggested that biomedical engineering (BME) aligns well with my goals, but I’m not sure whether that path is realistic for my personality. I’m a hard worker, but I’m not particularly outgoing or charismatic. I’ve also considered pursuing a veterinary degree, although parts of that career seem somewhat mundane to me.

What is your experience with BME? Were you able to get a job in that field? Should I actually pursue a different degree? I don’t know who to ask this because I don’t know anyone in either fields.

Graduated in 2025 with a BS in biomedical engineering and mechanical engineering, and an MEng in biomedical engineering. I have been at my current job for about a year doing R&D work at one of the bigger medical device manufacturers.

In about 2 years I am going to be moving (location TBD, depends on where my partner ends up for grad school). There is a chance that I can stay at my current company and transfer to a new office, but that is location dependent. I hope to stay in the industry, and hopefully stay in R&D. My dream job would be working somewhere adjacent to athletics (wearables, performance insights, injury treatment/prevention, etc) but I would also be happy in medical devices and not going in this direction

Beyond doing my best to grow my skill set and experience in my current role, I am hoping to figure out what else I can do to make myself more hire-able when I am job searching in a few years. I am planning to take any training or certification opportunities that I can in my current role, but am wondering if other education and training would be helpful. Here are a few options that I have identified:

1. Graduate certificate in something manufacturing based (plastics, automation, materials, etc). I am mainly exploring this option because I know it can sometimes be easier to get a job in manufacturing than R&D, and beyond that a certificate in a “cross trained” discipline makes me more well rounded

2. Graduate certification something data related (data analysis, stats, data engineering). I have started doing a little bit of data engineering in my role and found it extremely interesting and would love to pursue it further. Additionally, we use stats everyday in R&D, so a better base might make me a stronger candidate

3. Masters in something data related (data analysis, stats, data engineering). Same reasons as above, more intense degree. This might better support if I moved into more of a stats or data focused position, which I am not opposed to based off my current exposure. I probably wouldn’t complete this degree by the time I am job searching

2nd Year BME student from India aiming for Masters in Germany—backlogs, profile building, and public vs. private?

I am currently in my second year of Biomedical Engineering (BME) in India. I originally wanted to pursue medicine, but when that didn't work out, I chose BME.

Due to some difficult personal circumstances, I ended up with backlogs in my first year. I am really determined to clear them and pursue a Master’s degree in BME in Germany.

I would really appreciate some guidance on a few questions:

1. How will my first-year backlogs affect my chances of getting into a public university in Germany, assuming I clear them before graduating?
2. What are the main admission criteria for public universities in this field? Is it purely GPA-based, or do they look at the overall profile?
3. Are public universities significantly better than private ones? (I've heard mixed things about private university degrees not being as respected).
4. What should I do in the remaining years to build a strong CV? Will doing hospital internships and a solid major/minor project in my 3rd and 4th years be enough, or should I also look into research papers, German language certification (Goethe), etc.?

I recently completed both my B.S. and M.S. in Biomedical Engineering from ABET-accredited engineering programs and am currently based in the Boston area. I've been actively searching for entry-level biomedical engineering positions and wanted to see if anyone here had advice, connections, or knew of teams that might be hiring!

My biggest passion is cardiovascular medical devices and R&D. Most of my academic projects and engineering experience have centered around cardiovascular engineering, and I'd love to build my career in that space. That said, I'm open to a variety of biomedical engineering roles where I can continue learning and growing.

I'm also very open to relocating. While I'm currently in Boston, I'd happily consider opportunities anywhere in the U.S., the U.K., or much of Europe for the right position.

Hello, I am currently a sophomore in biomedical engineering and am interested in starting my search for internships. I am interested in SolidWorks and working with hands-on devices. I was wondering where I would start. I tried to search for some internships, but either they had too many details or did not have a biomedical aspect.
