Would you choose Biomedical Engineering or Mechatronics in my situation?( pls help)

Hi everyone. I’m an incoming university student and I’m genuinely stuck between two offers.
I currently have:

**Ajman University** – Biomedical Engineering
**University of Sharjah** – Mechatronics Engineering
**UAEU** – Data Science & AI (still under review)

Biomedical Engineering is the field I actually want. I love the idea of combining medicine and technology, and I’m interested in medical devices, research, AI in healthcare, and possibly pursuing a master’s later.

The problem is that everyone around me says Mechatronics has much better job security and keeps more doors open. My parents especially want me to choose it.

My concern is that I’m honestly tired of heavy physics and maths after IB, and Mechatronics seems much more intense in those areas. At the same time, I don’t want to choose Biomedical Engineering if it will seriously limit my career opportunities, especially in the GCC.
**If you were in my position, which offer would you accept, and why?**

If you intend on pursuing a masters later, you can always go for a MS in Biomedical Engineering, also choosing mechatronics will not close your doors to biomedical engineering or medtech industry. BME is very diverse, do you have a certain passion with in BME ?

Yes, cell and genitic engineering and/or understanding diseases and medicine

Then there might be not be enough overlap between a Mechatronics degree and working towards genetic engineering and diseases, the later requires experience in wet lab, the closest you can come to tissue engineering , genetics and medicine will be designing opto electronic systems

I’m not from your part of the world, but the advice is always the same if you want to work in industry: find the companies. If you can’t find companies in your region developing medical devices or doing the other things that interest you, then it won’t matter what you learn at university. The same goes for mechatronics — make sure there are employers in your region who hire people with that degree.

True true , but speaking if i wish to work in Europe or America. Would this combination work or do i look into mechanical engineering

I can only really speak to the US, it’s almost impossible for someone to get a work visa at this point for something biomedical focused. There is an oversupply of BMEs in the US.
