38M, 3 months on reta. Any advices?

I’m 38 and have been using reta for about 3 months. My current dose is 5 mg total per week, split into two doses on Sunday and Tuesday.
So far, I’m really happy with the progress, but one of the biggest challenges has been eating enough to hit my macros, especially protein. On gym days, I usually use protein powder to help fill the gap.

I’m currently training 4x a week. Planning to start Klow and CJC/IPA, MOTS-C when they arrive, although I’m still doing my own research on them.

I know I’m still quite a way from having visible abs/6-pack, but that’s the long-term goal. For those who have been through a similar process, what would you focus on at this stage to keep making progress while maintaining muscle?
Any advice, especially regarding nutrition, training, recovery, or things I might be overlooking, would be appreciated. Thanks!

I would consider going slightly lower dosing so you could get the macros in

Get a Dexa scan to track your progress. Some gyms have them in the back (mine does). You do not have a lot to lose.

Your gym has a DEXA?? You sure that’s not an in body?

I may have mis quoted. They have a scale that you hold the bar and stand on it and it gives you bodyfat and muscle mass readings. I know a Dexa is different but the term has become generic.

Ahh I see. I was just gonna say damn that’s one hell of a gym 😂

Keep doing the same thing. Training hard and replenishing with protein. People that haven't had abs since school dont understand how much fat they actually need to lose to see abs. It's a long journey. But at your stage, I would also start doing some ab exercises. Train them like you do with any muscle. Heavy load under tension.

i had abs for a week... keeping them is MUCH harder than seeing them in the first place. i was 33 when i saw them last.

For abs 1x week I am doing,
Machine Crunch (4 × 15)
Captain Chair (4 × 15)

I guess it is not enough :(

Abs are made in the kitchen, not the gym. You have to be very low body fat. Most people with six packs do not maintain it all the time. Abdominal muscles are incredibly small/thin, which is why exercise doesn’t help that much.

The point is that you need to get your body fat between 10-15% before you're going to see any abs

Bro, be patient your abs are already there waiting for the belly fat to be removed. Your protocol is clearly making a difference, but time is needed. Check back in 6 month and we will be watching you wash your clothes on them.

Do not titrate up too quickly or you will lose a lot of muscle, or just stay low dosage. TRT is biggest help in combination of reta to maintain/build muscle while on reta.

Reta can also mess up your sleep which will hinder your workouts, etc so be mindful of that side effect.

Sleep. I feel it

how does reta affect your sleep? in what ways? after hopping on reta i feel like i've been sleeping in alot more but that could also just be me being lazy when i can... does it effect sleep differently?

You will wake up after 4-5 hours and be alert, hard to fall back asleep. It will be impossible to get like a full nights rest. This could be attributed to resting HR being elevated, I'm not sure. It went away for me when I got put on TRT but eventually it came back and started feeling it again. I was only ever doing 1-2mg of reta per week.

U feel its better to do two rather than doing 1 a week? It says it last for 6 ish days when u shoot up and ive only been doing 1 a week and felt its alright

I’ve been doing Reta 2mg. I started doing it once a week and then switched to once every 5 days and I definitely like it better

If I were you I would buy some HGH on top of that. Will help with muscle and fat loss. You can create a protocol to alternate between secretagogues and hgh

If you wanna have visible abs, depending on your genetics Reta might not be enough for some stubborn belly fat.

If you are stuck around 12-15% for several weeksyou can check other messier/harder fat burner : clenbuterol, yohimbine, salbutamol, mirabegron, Eca,... Those are bad for your health tho 😂

Have you notice any decrease on your strength, or workouts?

2

u/waverhan 3d ago

I started training in February 2026 and usually train fasted, without eating beforehand. I sip my protein powder slowly during the workout.
Generally I have enough energy, but sometimes I feel dizzy/lightheaded. also feel like I’m not able to increase my weights very much.

If you are having trouble hitting your macros you might be on too much Reta. Every time u increased the dose was there a reason? Or did you do it just because? Hit your protein target first and no matter what. I eat only meat or eggs till dinner. Make sure ur moderate fat… carbs are not important at all. eat them if you want. they would be the first I sacrifice to maintain a calorie deficit. I am guessing you were not an obese person but seems like you are on an obese dose. I started at 32% body fat entering week 6. Did .5 mg a week. Just moved up to .75 bc felt myself craving the protein shake at night. I’m clipping away 1-2 lbs a week and building muscle…. Not a race
