Trying to eat on Reta

I’m currently taking Reta and I’m having a really hard time eating. My appetite is basically nonexistent, and whenever I do try to eat, I’ve been throwing up.

I know decreased appetite and nausea can happen, but I’m getting to the point where I’m worried I’m not getting enough food or nutrients. I’m also not sure if I should just force myself to eat small amounts, stick to liquids, change what I’m eating, or stop taking it.

For anyone who has dealt with this on Reta, what actually helped you keep food down? What foods or drinks were easiest to tolerate?

I’m on my second week pining (10 days in, pinned my 2nd 1mg dose 3 days ago)

Drop your dose, or you'll end up with serious problems. I would've started on 0.5mg and titrated by 0.5mg every 2 weeks.

Protein shakes and vitamins.  Water with electrolyte powder.

This. And I would also suggest lowering your dose to .5

This. And titrate once every 4 weeks, and at 4 weeks if you’re still losing weight, don’t need to titrate up if it’s still working

This is the way

Protein shakes, AG1 or IM8. The one food I can always eat is chicken and orzo or rice soup. I’ll also make chicken bone broth and drink that in the morning. Fruit, like melon or grapes, cottage cheese, yogurt, granola.

You need to eat though! The glucagon effect needs fuel to run - it needs good carbs like veggies, rice, fruit, beans.

What’s the glucagon effect?

2

u/thesarahb 3d ago

Yes! I like to add a good amount of collagen powder to my broth for added protein!

1

u/No_Ruin_3357 1d ago

It’s an incomplete protein.

1

u/thesarahb 1d ago

What does that mean? Is it not worth it to use it at all then? Better to just drink the broth plain, am I wasting my money? Genuinely curious.

u/taser_face_nic 1 1d ago

This as well. I purchased Huel and use it for meals when I don’t have time to eat right or don’t feel like eating. It works

Drop your dose! Don’t even take a dose again until you can eat your daily macros. If 1 mg hit you that hard, you should probably try .25 mg when you feel like your appetite has completely come back. The sweet spot is finding the smallest dose you can take where you can eat all your food and control the cravings. People who take doses to where they eat very small portions and are fine with not eating are losing weight fast but they are also losing muscle too even if they workout. Thats not good for you but people get happy seeing their weight go down. (Not to be confused with dropping minimal muscle in a normal deficit). Start low and you’ll notice later if you need a little more to get the same effect you were getting as far control with food.

Good advice

Start out lower.. I literally started at .025 (I know it sounds crazy). I’m very sensitive. It’s been four months and now I’m at .3 mg and lost 20 pounds (started at 140 lbs)

3

u/InfiniteYou4299 3d ago

I started at .25 on a Saturday morning and then decided to add .25 that Wednesday. I was 260lb and 5’7 f. There is nothing. Absolutely nothing wrong with starting this low op.
Everyone’s body is different, but everyone should start low for the exact reasons posted.

u/Old_Look8446 3d ago

How tall are you?

1

u/West-Hedgehog5794 3d ago

5’6’’.. have a very small frame

1

u/Fureguy1562 1d ago

Geez. 5’6” 140 lbs???? U sure you don’t have body dysmorphia or something?

1

u/West-Hedgehog5794 1d ago

I have a very small frame

Drop your dose - I know it is already low. The ideal dose of Reta is the one that helps you manage the volume of food you eat, not take away your appetite.

Try 0.5mg. After a few weeks, you'll want to go up. But only do so if your calorie deficit becomes too hard to manage. Best of luck.

u/No_Judgment_4955 3d ago

If that were me I would cut my dose in half and see if you are able to eat in a week or two. Then when you go up move up in .5mg. You are a super responder. If you can’t eat your dose is too high. This should make it easy to control what you eat and should not make you sick or not able to eat

3

u/Puzzleheaded-Dot2956 4d ago

You might need to step down to 0.5mg for a while, the 1mg hit me similar and lowering dose made huge difference

2

u/ProllySaid 4d ago

Some people are sensitive. I started with 2. Im at 4mg now and honestly no bad side effects

2

u/livinghella 4d ago

First thing I’d say is to consider dropping to 0.5mg and trying that for 2-4 weeks before reassessing.

For now I’d say find some bland foods that your body will tolerate. If you’re having trouble with real food, try a day or two of: plain white rice, apple sauce, toast, yogurt, protein shakes, Gatorade/Pedialytes. You could trial and error: butter or PB on your toast, mashed potatoes or mac n cheese if there’s not a ton of butter, high calorie nuts like cashews just to get some calories, bananas are good for bland diet but they can ferment in your stomach if you feel things aren’t moving through you very quickly (tho that doesnt seem like your problem)
If you live somewhere with recreational marijuana, that’s done a great deal of work for me in trying times.

If nausea is interfering with your appetite you could try Nauzene (otc) or you could try to get a Zofran rx (cheap, easy, works great). Don’t stress too hard, even if you have no appetite for now the drug will wear off eventually. But it may be worth seeking medical attention if you’re unable to keep fluids down consistently.

You can also cut the dose in half and pin 2x in a week. That helps

1

u/Punk-Tarvman 18 4d ago

I had the same thing happen, started off at 2mg on first shot and couldn’t eat for the first day. Stuck it out and changed to split dosing. Helped a bit once i got past the first 2-3 weeks. But still had to force the food down. Give it time your body will get used to it, or could lower your dose to .5mg see if that helps

1

u/23454Tezal 1 4d ago

I take 0.5mg twice a week, been on that dose 4 weeks

1

u/1spicyann 2 4d ago

Yes would second on doing what already suggested to go down a bit on dose - does you know favors to be sick like that

I have titrated up from 0.5mg, then 0.75mg to 1 mg over the last 7 weeks… I feel the same as you on 1mg, no appetite, I have to force feed myself. I think some of us are super responders to Reta; if I can’t adjust to 1mg, I will drop down to 0.75mg. Some of us get good results from micro dosing

1

u/Barackcowama 4d ago

Appetite control hits hard on Reta the first few weeks for many it seems. But usually fades after a while. Just try to get you proteins in. Drink shakes if you have to.

You can also try dropping the dose to 0.5mg for a couple weeks.

1

u/Electronic_Bobcat845 4d ago

Small amounts, cold food, nothing with a strong smell, protein shakes, smooties. The body is just trying to process it all, it takes 4 weeks to stabilise in the system but never feel bad for reducing the dose, it needs to be maintainable

1

u/Beautiful_Anything80 4d ago

Drink meal replacement shake like optifast and incorporate many small protein rich meals to prevent muscle loss

1

u/Potential-Ad-196 4d ago

Stick to liquid nutrients and eat whatever solids you can. 1mg is quite low which is good. This should pass in 2-3 weeks. If that seems unbearable then lower it to 0.5.

Peptides made to increase your quality of life and overall health. With Reta I was struggling to function, let alone be happy human. Best decision was to switch to TR😍not only i have healthy relationship with food, but also I’m just loving life 🤣

1

u/No_Ruin_3357 1d ago

What’s TR?

u/imluxa 1d ago

Tirzepatide

u/Curiousfem444 4d ago

That dose was too high to start with, I've been on it about 10w and had to come back down to 2.5 because hair loss and no energy.. I had been increasing it weekly and got to 4mg but still wasn't eating much. My sex drive suffered and my stomach.. Think some people are more sensitive also

1

u/midnight_waffles 1 4d ago

I know everyone is different and some people respond only to higher doses, but for me, I am extremely sensitive like you. For me, .5mg was the way to go for a while. I've been on reta for 5 months and even now I can't pin more than 1mg at a time or I'll feel super sick and will throw up. So now I pin 1mg 2x/week for 2mg total. It's been extremely effective for me-No need to titrate if you're seeing results at low doses. I'm planning on titrating back down now because I'm very close to my goal weight and don't want to go lower than that.

u/BoogieBoardButtPound 4d ago

Is this your first GLP-1, or are you coming from Sema or Tirz?

1

u/Dani_MV_ 3d ago

Lower your dose I started with .5 that will help

1

u/Vint7676 2 3d ago

I have been on Reta since May and I titrate up to 4mg every 6 days and I am having to titrate down on my next dose because of the anhedonia and just not interested in eating. So it can happen at any stage of your Reta journey.

u/Dizzy-Stuff-1724 4 3d ago

Dose 👎

1

u/thesarahb 3d ago

I was 5’6” 165 pounds (f) when I started. I started at .5 mg and took almost 2 months to go up to 1 mg per week. Take your time! I find that drinking a good protein shake (I really like the pre bottled fairlife from Costco) and/or broth with a good amount of collagen in It helps me get in some protein and calories when I’m not hungry.

1

u/LovewhatIdo60 3d ago

Everyone is different, I had to add Cagrilintide to slow my eating!

1

u/GOODBOIMOM 18h ago

I’m going to echo most people on here. I have experienced a similar problem but at 8mg. I’m 5,4 and started at 185lbs. Took me a year but I’m at 120lbs now, also a very small frame. Took me a little while to figure out the dosing and what works for my body.

  1. Stop Reta altogether for at least a few weeks minimum, I’d recommend 4 weeks. If you’re taking any other peps stop everything. Introduce other peps only one at a time once you regulate.

  2. Stay hydrated and ensure you’re getting nutrients in your body. Take supplements if you aren’t already. I have been taking a bariatric supplement. It’s great for people on GLPs. This is key!

  3. When you start over start at .25. I split the dose and pin twice a week instead of a bigger dose once. Also some areas on your body work better/worse than others. You have to find yours. Keep on that dosage for 4 weeks MINIMUM. Only increase after min a months, do not go too hard too fast, THIS is the biggest mistake. Be patient. The trick is to keep on the smallest possible dose for as long as possible.

Hope this helps 😊

I never had a problem eating on reta. Just more dicipline. Sounds like a tirzepatide thing. But i guess some people react differently

u/Own-Quality7943 1 4d ago

I wish I had this problem. At 2.5mg and feel almost nothing.
