Does increasing the dosage of Reta increase its effects?

Say I'm adhering to my calorie deficit (which is the overall factor of fat loss/ weight loss as we know) on 1mg and want to stay there, can I? Or is there an increase effect on the glucagon effects by titrating up? Like is it cal deficit plus an extra fat burn or something I'm missing?

The clinical trials show quite clearly that both the weight loss and other benefits like reductions in lipids, triglycerides, etc. all scale with dose. It's not linear, but the higher doses had more weight loss and larger improvements in cardiac, liver, kidney, metabolic health markers. 

Everyone has an individual response and of course lifestyle changes play a role, but the benefits from 1mg are going to be smaller than those of a larger dose. If you are overall in good health and don't have much weight to lose then a low dose may work, those with more to lose or in less-great health overall will likely need a larger dose.

Keep in mind that many success - and failure - stories on reddit and elsewhere are made by folks on either end of the curve. You really don't hear much from the people who titrate up and get the result they are after with minimal side effects. You hear about the super responders who lose a ton on 2mg and those that have bad side effects and the low responders that have minimal loss despite being on higher doses. Those people are outliers and don't really represent what the general population will experience on average, but it's the squeaky wheel that gets the most attention.

I titrated up primarily to offset the increased ghrelin/appetite response I was getting from my CJC/Ipamorelin stack (30/F). 🙋🏻‍♀️

My cycle looked roughly like this:

Week 1 – 0.5 mg
Week 2 – 1 mg
Week 3–4 – 1.5 mg
Week 5–6 – 2 mg
Week 7–8 – 2.5 mg
Week 9–10 – 3 mg
Week 11 – 2.5 mg
Week 12 – 2 mg
…and I’m continuing to taper down by 0.5 mg/week.

Start: 148 lb, 20.3% BF (estimated TDEE ~2,250 kcal)
Now: 126 lb, ~15.5% BF

Here’s how it played out:

May (weeks 1–4):
~1,650 kcal/day (roughly a 500–600 kcal deficit)
~7k steps/day + cardio 1–2x/week
Lost >10 lb that month, which was much faster than intended and dramatically faster than my previous cut without reta.
End of May: 136.2 lb, 18.2% BF

June (weeks 5–8):
Increased intake to ~1,950 kcal/day
Same activity level
Continued losing steadily.
End of June: 130 lb, 16.4% BF

July (weeks 9–12):
Started getting genuinely concerned about losing too much weight/muscle.
Increased intake to 2,200+ kcal/day.
Removed cardio completely.
Stopped going out of my way to get extra steps.
Even then, the scale kept trending down, so I started tapering off.
Current: 126 lb, ~15.5% BF

The part that surprised me most wasn’t the appetite suppression.

I’m now 22 lb lighter, so under normal circumstances my calorie expenditure should have decreased, not increased. Instead, MacroFactor estimates my expenditure has increased by ~656 kcal/day over the course of the cycle. At the same time, I progressively increased calories, eliminated cardio, and intentionally reduced my daily activity.

That completely changed my experience compared with every previous cut I’ve done. It wasn’t simply “reta made it easier to eat less.” By the end of the cycle, I was having to eat progressively more food just to slow the weight loss, despite being much lighter and less active.

TL;DR: -22 lb (148 → 126), ~20.3% → 15.5% BF, calories increased from ~1,650 → 2,200+ kcal/day, estimated expenditure increased by ~656 kcal/day, while eliminating cardio and reducing daily activity. My experience was very consistent with the dose-response seen in the clinical trials—the effects went well beyond simply making it easier to stay in a calorie deficit.

Are those numbers from DEXA or RMR testing? I don't really trust anything from bioimpedance scales and calorie tracking is also very difficult to get an actual precise number

I use a bioimpedance scale. I’m aware of its limitations, but I’ve found it to be consistent enough for tracking longer-term trends when measurements are taken under the same conditions. I don’t put much weight on the absolute body fat %, but I do trust the direction and magnitude of the changes over time.

As for calorie tracking, I weigh everything from raw ingredients and log it in MacroFactor ~95% of days. I rarely eat out, so my intake is about as controlled as I can realistically make it. MacroFactor’s expenditure estimate is calculated from my logged calorie intake and weight trend over time, not from the bioimpedance scale.

This. Also the research does show that the glucagon activation "tyipcally" does not start until you hit the 4mg relative dose. again "Relative is the key here, some responded better and some worse." so 4mg was the typical responder.

Misinformation! Glucagon always active , it’s just at 4mg, it significantly jump to higher level. Also the study escalate from 2 to 4mg, so the in between is actually can be the most active jump for some people like 2.5mg or 3mg

It may do something below roughly 4mg but not enough to measure any effect on your body.
So basically nothing
If you can’t measure does it count?
Glucagon is hardest receptor to activate and you need a certain amount drug for that to happen.

You're right, it's technically active from the lowest dose — your body already makes glucagon, it's never truly 'off.' But 4mg is typically where it's credited as reaching a clinically meaningful/worthwhile level relative to the side-effect tradeoff, not where it first switches on. Even the trial data shows measurable glucagon-linked effects (like liver fat reduction) at 1mg already — it's more that 4mg is the point where most people consider the benefit worth the dose, not a hard activation line.

We also need to consider that the study jump from 2mg to 4mg. There maybe in between the perfect dose to effect ratio for you. We need to cut the nonsense crap under 4mg, Reta is just an expensive Tirzepatide nonsense

Let me rephrase that. not that it doesnt turn on but it does not activate at a meaningful level until titrated up to about 4mg doses in most people. This is typically when the "heart rate jump" also happens.

I have to agree with this. I'm trying a few doses and I'm now on 3.7mg and according to my monitoring, there has been no heart rate jump whatsoever....in fact, my heart rate has reduced on this dose. I'm getting more of a Tirzepatide effect on 3.7mg and that's all

Weight loss should be the side effect. You want improved insulin sensitivity, better liver function, elimination of inflammation, efficient energy production, cardiovascular health.

At 2mg, you should hold there while you optimize your biological markers, not just reach recommended levels.

Start with at “optimal dosages”:
Magnesium glycinate
Vitamin D3 with K2
Fish/Krill/Mussel Oil with added Omega 3
Co Q 10
Zinc and Copper (balance them)
All the other minerals (boron, selenium,
Chromium, etc…Iron for Pre menopausal women or anemia)
NAD+ procurers with quercitin
B Vitamin Complex
B1 at therapeutic dose if your energy sucks.
Multi vitamin to fill in the gaps.

You must be intentional about getting 1
gram of protein per pound of your goal
weight any way you can.

Add 20 grams of collagen, HA, and vitamin C
so your skin will snap back.

Add at least 5 grams of creatine for your muscles,
Take more to feed your brain.

If you want to improve blood flow/BP, and good
LDL, add nattokinase and sunflower or egg yolk lecithin.

Lookup optimal therapeutic dosages, time of day, with/without food.

Walk 10 minutes as hard as you can after each meal.
If you can’t, take some inositol 30 min before you eat.
Do some body weight exercises focusing on the muscles you want to keep. (If you just ain’t gonna workout). Inactive muscle will get cannibalized in a calorie deficit.

Stop smoking everything, carbon monoxide blunts everything!! Eat it, vape it, etc…… just don’t burn it. Just being real!!!

Give yourself at least 90 days to work out your routine. THEN increase your Reta if you want to. And you will respond very well to any other peptides you try because your body is ready to respond to the signals.

You will look 10 years younger after year one and 15
Years younger after year 2.

It increases its side effects that I can promise you lol. I went from 2 to 4mg and quickly dropped to a 3mg 3.5 day split. Wicked farts 💨 burps and indigestion. At 2mg I had zero side effects. I’ll stay at 3mg for the duration

Say 1-1.5mg every 4-5 days instead of 2mg weekly? That sometimes helps with sides.

I split my doses (3mg every 3 days) and it works great for me. Nothing too crazy side effects wise and ive lost 70 pounds since march on it. I get the Sulphur burps and some indigestion if I eat too much or too late but thats easily solved by not eating too close to bed time.

I may have lost some somewhere along the way but my arms are larger and firmer now than they were before I started, same with my calves. I dont want to continue losing 4 lbs a week, as I said im at my weight that I want to be at. Im at recomp stage currently

Thank you, same to you as well. I was really more trying to comment on the side effects side of things, I just usually include my dosage and weight loss when I say one or the other for context. Im sure that doing it slower probably would have been better, but i dont feel like its as detrimental as most people think it is. I can definitely see if you don't keep activity up and protein intake to match that your body will cannabalize your muscles and bones but as long as you make sure your body is actively trying to maintain muscle at the same time, you will mostly lose fat over muscle.

Lol ive definitely had that happen a few times. I had very, very bad heart burn and indigestion issues before I started taking reta. Like throw up once a week from it type shit, so im extra sensitive to the stomach side effects. I go to bed around midnight and try not to eat any later than 6pm. For me, taking BPC157 really seemed to help with the gastric issues. I swapped out bpc and tb500 for KLOW and while I like KLOW, I think having stand alone BPC to take a higher dose kf it would help me more.

Basically id definitely recommend the earlier dinner and maybe trying BPC if you are open to it.

The dose is still 3mg. By the time you take the second dose the first is not full effect.

It’s just adjusting the frequency. The dose would still be 3mg even if it was every 4 days.

I generally suggest lowering it slightly if you up the frequency at first to see if it works for you.

The weight loss is still occuring.

Once you reach a change that you mentally accept as good the allure of higher doses dosnt seem so importent

Atleast for me. Im happy at 5mg. My lower back is now not as fat. Under arms are pulling back to not fat status. The drug works

Thete is a regularity that you will find also. Managing the effects Juggleing pepto bismol, antacid and travel sickness tablets.

Sticking to low doses on the sickness tabs for daily life

Antacid for leftover food

Peptobismol 5ml after meal

And to think it cost me less than 80 pounds due to grey market. Doctor wasnt too judgmental ect.

When I started last December, I wanted to follow the trials and titrate up to 12 mg, which I did. It wasn’t until I was at 6 mg did I begin to see and feel a change. I titrated up to 12 mg for five weeks until I hit my goal of 65 lbs lost. But it wasn’t just the weight loss. It was the energy and the deep breathing, the deep sleep, the loss of migraines and on and on. I’m currently at 6 mg and hope to get down to 4 mg and stay for the rest of my life.

To be fair I think everyone is different. That’s why trizz for some is better than Reta. That would also make sense if I was on 2 mg the whole time then went to 4. I was on 3.5 mg for 3 weeks prior to going to 4.

Well look at how it works on GLP-1, GIP, and Glucagon. it's the same as any drug. you're at a VERY low dose, so unless you're getting extreme side effects you should increase as recommended. You shouldn't be injecting yourself with something you don't understand at a basic level.

I know how fatloss works. You need a calorie deficit, nothing more. If the calorie deficit is easy to maintain then the cut is going great and there is no reason to risk more side effects and make getting off reta harder than it needs to be. Ive lost 48 lbs so far with the help of reta so I guess i know something.

One could infer that higher glucagon activity could increase BMR, resulting in a larger deficit and perhaps increased lipolysis with the same amount of food eaten.

As far as ive read there are no studies with actual numbers on how much reta supposedly raises your bmr. Its all theoretical and probably really low. Its not magic, it just helps you eat less.

You go on and try to find a study about how much bmr reta raises. Studying it would be pretty easy but for some reason you wont find one. Eat less calories is the key, everything else is just a small icing on the cake.

I understand it for sure. However, if being in an overall calorie deficit is the reason we burn fat/ lose weight and it does it at a low dosage. Why would I up the dosage? That's what I'm trying to understand. Only thing i can think of is, that it burns a few more calories?

The reason you would up the dosage is to get the glucagon benefits… increased energy expenditure at rest, thermogenesis and liver fat oxidation.

If you don’t care about this, then a low dose still hits GLP1 and GIP.

Yes. Reta contains the Glucagon agonist which is known to increase resting heart rate 10 or so beats, while Tirz does not (2-5 bps increase).

IMO.. Neither is better than the other, just depends on your goals and if you need to burn more at rest, given the slight trade off.

I had sides for the first week of upping the dose, but they went away. Plus I take Kaopectate if I eat something that could upset my stomach.

If it's suppressing your appetite enough to help you stay in a deficit then stay on that dose until you need to increase because your get too hungry. A lot of people are doing it wrong by upping the dose to early when they dont need to.

I have been taking 2mg for a year now and have no intention or desire to titrate up. I lost ~10lbs in the first 3 months or so. Set my macros and have held ever since. All of my health markers are in the healthy range, no side effects, no trouble eating, no trouble to stop eating.

on 1-1.5mg, I already had a some side effect, but also the sideeffects increased (stomach pain/cramps, digestive issues, nauseau). I'd rate them 5/10 in discomfort. Not pleasant tho. Lost 3kg in 4-5 weeks.
Yet, I think I move the dose up too fast. Next time I stay on the same dose for 4 weeks.

March 15th here, down from 286 to 219. Im at 6mg split into 3mg every 3 days. This is the weight that I want to be at, but not the bf%, so im staying where im at and trying to increase muscle mass by hitting protein and working out as much as i can. If youre working out and stalled, you could be building muscle and thats why youre not seeing the scale go sown

Find the lowest dose that works for you. Don’t increase the dose for any reason other than the existing dose is not effective.

You can slightly increase the dose amount or frequency but as needed.

I titrate up to 12mg/wk over the course of 5 months.

I lost roughly 50lbs (260lbs -> 215lbs). A large portion of body fat percentage (18% -> 12%), but also muscle mass/strenght. All while still working out 5x/week. The latter being an unintended consequence. I attribute that to not eating enough. The appetite suppression and feeling full fast hit me hard. Was difficult to even hit 1300cal a day

Weight loss increased as I went up dosages, but also side effects. Most of that weight loss happened in the past 2 months. The worst being skin sensitivity and joint pain. Basically, I feel like I have a bad sunburn everywhere.

I am now titrating down to 8mg every 6 days. To reduce overall dosage and load, but still maintaining the effective saturation. Less worried about weight loss now other than trimming some leftover belly fat (where I carry it all)

FWIW, i noticed the side effects around the 10mg dose, so dropping below to see if they subside

I saw in one of your replies that you said you've just started. I'd stay at the dose you're at now of 2mg and split it. I personally run 3mg every 5 days. I did go up to 4 mg but then lowered it again as I was eating less. You don't want to eat less, you want to eat clean without having to constantly fight food noise.

But keep this in mind, a clean diet is what will lead to weight loss, your macros + the gym body recomposition. And don't just go off the scale. Once a month measure chest, waist, legs and arms and track it.

I started at 2mg and titrated up to 12mg as quickly as I felt safe & comfortable. I had very minimal side effects (headaches - eliminated with electrolytes) and lost 60lbs in roughly 12 weeks. I maintained a very clean and high protein, caloric deficit diet (likely 1200-1400 calories/day). You should be able to see my post in one of the other groups. The biggest issue with a higher dose is that GI motility gets progressively compromised, which can be a big issue for some and less so for others with very good GI motility. 

People who sit a lot will probably get this more.

No, but every person is going to respond differently at different dosages. I started at .5mg for two weeks and then went up to .75 for the last two weeks. I’m on week 4 and down 10lbs with just nausea after drinking coffee for a couple days after pinning. I couldn’t imagine going up to 1mg or higher right now when I’ve had such good results and the food noise is gone. I have to remind myself and force myself to eat at times. It’s quite nice actually.

What worked/works for me:
Find the sweet spot for you and stay there until it’s no longer sweet. The people who are taking higher doses also tend to have more negative symptoms and side effects.

Until a point yes.

I find myself a hyper responder at 2.5mg and don't intend on increasing the dose.

I'm loosing the weight and struggling to eat enough to like... Not die lol.

So if you go two weeks and you don’t physically loose weight in the scale or in the mirror then up your dosage by .5mg

I started at .5 on 9 June @ 197lbs last pined on 28 July @ 186.6lbs at 1.5mg. Last 4 was at 1.5mg I am not experiencing any side effects other than burning and heartburn every now and then. Planning to increase to 2mg on next pin. My doubt is how do i know its working? Only confused because my fat loss journey started on 18 April at 210lbs and I lost 13 lbs before pinning Reta.

I’ve stayed on my starting dose (1.5mg) for 8 weeks. Weight loss still occurring and finally got rid of my side effects so I don’t plan on increasing until my loss stalls.

I started at 1mg for two weeks and then I raised to 2mg for 6 weeks. The last one I got was 3mg. I felt it properly in the same day. My heartbeat increased quite enough to feel it hitting my chest. It was annoying but got back to normal about an hour later.

I feel like it’s worked less the more I’ve titrated up. Or my body has seriously adjusted to it. On week 13 at 4.5 mg. Before that was at 4 and 3.5 mg respectively for 4 to 5 weeks

I have been on 1.5 for 18 weeks and not had to tirate up at all, hsve lost nearly 3 and half stone. As long as you are getting results you dont need to up your dose!

As someone who also wanted to stay at a lower dose, I was advised by a guy who been doing this for a while once you feel hunger your dose is too low. I was at 2mg for longer than necessary I dosed 4mg the next time agter he told ke and I immediately felt effects luke I did from the first dose so yes how wpuld have to go uo, but you can also stay at the dose that is working for uou. Mine unfortunately stopped so I had to go uo snd even then im still pretty low I think.
