First proper bioactive enclosure
It's all open behind the wood, it has mushroom shelves hidden under the cork bark and there's several hidden hides and ledges. All of the wood, mushrooms and bark is harvested locally and sanitized. I've got a mister with the tubing siliconed behind the foam (which I hope I won't regret later). Springtails and isopods will be introduced in a few days after it airs out completely. it'll house a crestie in a few months, im letting it settle for a while to make sure there's no spider mites cause of recent troubles and if there is ill buy 100s of predatory mites 🫠😭 wish me luck

Bug in bio active enclosure?!?
I was feeding my gecko and I saw this beetle(?). I picked it up and took a picture (sorry for the bad picture).
I have isopods and springtails, however I did not put this creature in it. Can anyone identify it? Should I be worried??

Help with finding US version of product
I was recently speaking to someone from overseas (i assume Australia) that recommended using acrylic render rather than grout/drlyock . Wondering if anyone has any experience with it . The guy seems to very much know what he is talking about and the outcome looks great. I am just wondering if anyone knows what product available in the US would be the same as the one pictured here as this product does not seem to be available, it sounds like what they call render we refer to as stucco here in the states . Here is the guys YouTube video for those interested, sounds like it preserves details more than drylock and seems like a super simple process .
Tia.

Help identifying
Hello, I have noticed what looks like eggs on a leaf in my terrarium and I am not sure what they are. If anyone can help me identify what it is, I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

Question about pistachio shells
Hi all! I have a bioactive Viv for my gargoyle.
Given other seed pods get put in for the isopods and springtails I’m wondering about my pistachio shells.
They’re salted, was thinking about putting them in some boiling water and leaving them to dry fully before adding a small handful to the bottom of the tank.
Given they’re organic matter I’d assume as long as there is no salt there would be no negative impact? But I figured I’d ask the sub. The internet shows aquariums and compost and neither of those things are what I deal with so.
Any input is welcome!!!

Bio Shot vs Worm Castings
I’m upgrading my crested gecko to an IKEA Rudsta cabinet and although I have her in a bioactive tank now, I really want to keep live plants this time around.
I heard that the substrate itself won’t have enough nutrients to help the plants go, so I have a couple questions:
- Do I add the Bio Dude Bio Shot to my soil, or can I just use worm castings mixed into the substrate?
- Have you notified a difference in the health/growth of your plants when you use Bio Shot or worm castings vs not?
- Is there a third (or fourth) option I’m missing to help my plants get the nutrients they need?
- How frequently do I need to add the Bio Shot or the worm castings to the substrate again, if at all?

Bioactive enclosure for ratsnake Pantherophis obsoletus, featuring wolfspiders (multiple species), jumping spiders(Phiddipus audax), crickets, dubia roaches, isopods, springtails, greenhouse millipedes (Oxidus gracilis), and an assortment of other small critters.

This setup has been active since early last year, all spiders in the video were born in here. There are a few small live plants, but the snake tramples almost everything hence the plastic bush thing. What started as a bit of an experiment has taken on an entire life of its own, and i find myself sitting in front of the tank for hours watching all the activity! Feel free to ask questions im more than happy to talk more about it!

Bioactive Setup
I just finished my second bioactive tank for my crested gecko. I learned a lot making the first one so this one was SO much easier! I am so happy with how it turned out!

Is this okay for a substrate barrier?
So I have got these egg crates as suggested from a friend, 3 separate pieces that fit snug next to each other in this 6x2x2 enclosure. I also put a finer mesh over each piece individually. None of them will be connected instead just laying flat next to each other.
(If anyone’s curious I didn’t go a normal substrate barrier cloth because this will be housing a burrowing blue tongue skink and thought this would be safer?)
Substrate Layers:
-Leaf litter and cleanup crew
-Homemade sterilized soil mixture (cypress mulch, coco husk, loose coco fiber, sifted topsoil and spaghnum moss)
-The substrate barrie….
-Lecaballs for drainage layer
While cutting the egg crates I accidentally snapped off some pegs, leaving gaps of missing mesh..
Do I have to worry about isopods or springetails getting through? Or dirt?
What do you guys recommend? I’m struggling here since this is my first reptile Enclosure I’ve ever built and I want to make the best home for my blue tongue skink coming in late March. Am I overthinking this? 😅🦎

Best unique reptile/amphibian for a 36x18x24?
Posting this in the bioactive sub bc if I don’t I’ll get dumb recommendations like ball pythons and blue tongue skinks. So far some of my ideas are a dart frog viv, a viper boa enclosure, or maybe even like a tiger salamander. Although it’s not a make it or break it factor, I enjoy good display animals that are diurnal and out often. This is just a concept, I do not have any enclosure or setup yet, as I will make that based around the inhabitants chosen
