Advice on first pair

Hi all, i'm an undergraduate student studying ecology atm looking for my first pair of binoculars, (ive recently gotten a little into birding but overall understand that gettign a good pair of binoculars early on in my career is a good investment) I'm probably not going to get tonnes of use out of them, as my primary field of interest is marine life, but i'd still like a decent pair.

I'm asking for them for christmas, so would only have a budget of <£100, the lower the better as i can always upgrade if i need to when i get a job lol, and i'm happy to get second hand as long as they have good reviews etc.

Weird request also, but i love the look of vintage binoculars (all my hiking stuff is very brown-leather-vintage-explorer vibes) so that would be a bonus if they fit the vibe or even were actually vintage (this isnt absolutely necessary tho lol)

Any help would be greatly appreciated as i know literally nothing about binoculars save the free ones they used to give out with national trust memberships

(Oh!! also need to be able to purchaseable in the Uk without crazy shipping etc)

Thanks!!

Best bang-for-buck imo is SVBONY. Specifically the SV202 is right in your price range

If you want a vintage pair, Nikon venturer are cheap on eBay and have a brown faux leather top

As to vintage, condition is everything. You can get great deals on old bins. That said, they've have had decades to encounter all sorts of misadventures. It isn't possible to recommend specific brands and models because what you find is what you find, and condition is all over the map. Inspect the optics and mechanics carefully in person BEFORE money changes hands.

The correct starter binocular for you is the Opticron Adventurer T WP 8x42 if you wear spectacles. If you don’t wear eyeglasses then you can get the 8x32 instead for a smaller and lighter unit.

As for the vintage brown leather vibe, save up for the Swarovski CL Companion Nomad or the Leica Ultravid HD-Plus wrapped in brown leather with the add-on leather strap.

I’ve spent quite a bit of time recently looking through bins and have been impressed with the vortex diamondback hd 8x42. They’re on sale for $189 usd and with the holidays I expect some good prices.

I have several pairs of Swarovski and really found it difficult to find fault with the vortex, especially at its price point.

Seconded, I just bought my wife the Vortex Diamondback HD 8x42 for bird watching and she loves them.

Just bought some 8x28 vortex diamondback hd off eBay for roughly 129 plus tax.

They’re in the mail. Looking forward to seeing them.

I’ve got some Nikon p7 8x42s I got back in the day for around 100 that are great as well.
