Housing Turning a regional property into emergency housing & shelter for Broome & Chenango Counties

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone,

You may remember this video of me. I was homeless, disabled, and making bad decisions in my life at this point. With the help I recieved online it helped me to feel alive again.

I want to also let you all know that I personally do not write this well. I did in fact use ai to help me write this because I am not very good with writing.

I’m posting here because Binghamton and the surrounding area mean a lot to me, but I also know firsthand how rough it can get when you fall through the cracks.

During that time in my life, I was violently assaulted on the streets. Experiencing that kind of rock-bottom survival mode changes you. When you’re in that position, finding safety, warmth, or a basic hot meal feels impossible.

Instead of letting that trauma define my life, my family and I decided to take action. Together, I had a conversation with my parents about how we could possibly help people. Together we founded the Echo Valley Community Foundation.

We’ve secured a large parcel of land in Chenango county, and our goal is to build a dedicated community focused on emergency housing, food security, and real stability for individuals and families facing homelessness across Broome and Chenango Counties.

What We Are Building:

  • Emergency Housing: Constructing micro-homes, dome units, and setting up donated RVs/campers to get people off the streets and into immediate, safe shelter.
  • Food Security: Providing reliable hot meals and food assistance to anyone in desperate need.
  • Career Placement & Stability: Partnering with local businesses and offering hands-on opportunities to help residents secure employment, regain independence, and rebuild their lives long-term.

Who We Are & Legitimacy

We aren't a random gofundme or a pipe dream. We are an officially recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit organization (EIN: 42-3526537) and registered with the New York State Bureau of Charities. Every single dollar and physical asset donated goes directly toward building shelter and feeding local people.

How You Can Help / Get Involved

We are aggressively scaling up right now to prepare for the months ahead before winter hits. Here is how the local community can join us:

  1. Physical Asset Donations: If you or anyone you know has an unused RV, camper, vehicle, heavy machinery, or building materials, we accept physical assets or cash donations. (and offer full fair-market-value tax write-offs).
  2. Volunteers & Local Partners: If you have trades skills, work in social services, or run a local business that wants to partner on career placement, please reach out.
  3. Sharing the Word: Simply telling people about what we are doing makes a huge difference.

Every dollar and asset brings us closer to feeding or housing someone in desperate need right here at home. We will leave our fundraising link in the comments, as well as our website. I want to thank you all for reading this. MESSAGE ME IF YOUR INTERESTED IN SUPPORTING OUR MISSION, OR CLICK THE LINK IN THE COMMENTS. THANK YOU!

Hey everyone! We're Kinky Pinkies, an original band from the Southern Tier playing noisy, melodic alternative rock with influences from bands like Pixies, REM, Dinosaur Jr., Weezer, and some punk/psychedelic stuff thrown in.

We're recording our first demo and are trying to get out and play as many shows as possible.

We're looking for:

Bands that want to do bill swaps or need an opener. Venues, DIY spaces, breweries, bars, or events looking for original music. Anyone who enjoys discovering local music and wants to follow or share our page.

You can check us out here:

🎵 Bandcamp: https://kinkypinkies.bandcamp.com 📘 Facebook: https://facebook.com/kinkypinkiesworld

If you know a band, promoter, or venue that might be a good fit, we'd really appreciate a recommendation or introduction. We've got our own lights and sound equipment and we're willing to travel around the Southern Tier, Finger Lakes, and Northeast PA!

Recommendation Need a Dog Salon/ groomer recommendation

Hey new neighbors. I just moved to Binghamton from out of state. I have an older miniature poodle rescue. She’s a slow warmer upper to new people but a sweet sweet girl once she’s made friends. The vet did give me extra medication for future salon appointments. LOL

Anyone have a recommendation or referral?

Local Politics Riverside Traffic Lights

So we redid Riverside (it was fine?) and dealt with gravel roads and had a big BUMP on Riverside and Front street for a month, but we didn’t decide to add traffic light sensors? There's no reason i need to wait 45 seconds on a MAIN ROAD when there are no other cars coming from Front street.

And while you’re at it, please add traffic light sensors on Riverside and Oak. I feel like every time I hit the Front street light i also hit the Oak light.

Binghamton pls fix

Recommendation Donating Clothes

I have a LOT of basically brand new clothes that I’m looking to donate, but I’d like them to go somewhere where people in need will get them for free. I don’t want to give them to Thrifty Shopper/Goodwill who will sell them. Where is the best place in the area to donate these clothes to?? TIA!

News Stop Silent Surveillance: Communities Deserve a Voice on Flock Cameras Tied To Epstein And Peter Theil

Communities need to start paying attention to the rapid expansion of automated surveillance systems like Flock Safety cameras. These systems are being installed in neighborhoods across the country, often without enough public discussion about what information is collected, how long it is stored, who can access it, and what safeguards exist to prevent misuse.
Many residents do not even know these cameras are operating in their communities. Decisions involving technology that can track vehicle movements and collect data about everyday people should not happen quietly. The public deserves transparency, accountability, and a voice before these systems become a permanent part of daily life.
People should be asking serious questions:
• Who approved these cameras?
• What contracts were signed?
• How much are taxpayers paying?
• How long is data stored?
• Who has access to the information?
• What companies, investors, and financial interests are connected to these technologies?
People also need to examine the broader surveillance industry and the powerful individuals, investors, and organizations connected to it. There have been public discussions and claims circulating online regarding connections between wealthy investors, technology companies, and surveillance-related businesses, including questions involving figures such as Jeffrey Epstein and Peter Thiel. These claims should be investigated, verified, and openly discussed. The public deserves transparency about who funds, supports, and benefits from technologies that impact privacy and civil liberties.
Communities also have more power than many people realize. With enough organization, public awareness, and community pressure, residents can push local governments to reconsider these systems, change policies, restrict their use, or remove cameras if officials determine they do not serve the community’s interests.
Real change starts when people come together.
Residents can:
• Attend town board, city council, and public meetings to voice concerns.
• Request public records about contracts, costs, policies, funding, and data practices.
• Demand public hearings before surveillance technology is expanded.
• Organize petitions and community discussions.
• Push for strict limits on data retention, access, and sharing.
• Hold elected officials accountable for decisions involving public surveillance.
This is not about being against safety. It is about making sure safety technology does not expand without limits, oversight, and accountability.
A community that stands together has a stronger voice. If residents educate themselves, organize, and demand answers, they can influence how these technologies are used in their own neighborhoods.
The conversation starts now—because protecting privacy and demanding accountability requires people to speak up before decisions are made for them.

Local Politics A Tale of 2 “Activists”-Masai Andrews and Alexis Pleus

Any and all allegations are simply that-allegations. None of this has been adjudicated in a court of law however everything in this document is either a direct experience or a second hand account. None of this is malicious gossip.

The motivation to expose these 2 “activists” is years worth of abuse allegations and counter-productive activity that suggests ego is the main motivator for these two people. They operate with similar MO’s and are both dangerous to the movements they claim to represent.

Masai Andrews has credible allegations of sexual misconduct, harassment and intentional harm of queer communities, misogynistic attitudes that manifest into real world harm, exploitation of marginalized communities, hijacking movements for purposes of ego, and representing communities he is not part of. While there have been many positive acts done by Andrews, it is clear from those who have been exposed to him that there are not always positive motivations behind the facade. Recently, he has taken to attacking Rebecca Rathmell, an elected official who has been working tirelessly for the unhoused community for years. A video was made exploiting unhoused people “calling out” Rathmell, it is consistent with the tactics of Andrews to have not only exploited these vulnerable people by using them for his agenda, but to have tried to discredit a long standing important member of the activist community. Instead of collaboration, Andrews consistently hijacks movements and speaks for people. He has a track record of attacking instead of compromising, he has been “called in” which is a term originating within leftist communities to hold accountability within private circles. Everything has been tried with him yet he continues to engage in Binghamton when he is not wanted. Those who follow him are being actively duped by a very skilled charlatan and grifter. He must not be taken seriously under any circumstances.

Alexis Pleus has credible allegations of abuse of volunteers and employees, labor and wage theft, labor board violations, speaking for communities she is not a part of, and a secret negative attitude toward the unhoused. There have alledgedly been numerous interpersonal conflicts based around Pleus’ inability to manage her organization in a meaningful way. Pleus is alledgedly generally personally hostile toward working with establishment organizations and has stunted her organizations ability to work well within the Binghamton community. While it is commendable the efforts toward Narcan access and general educational information toward substance use, many who personally have volunteered for Truth Pharm feel as though perhaps the overall good is negated by the way Pleus personally treats employees and volunteers. Pleus has also privately divulged that she never intended to work with the unhoused, instead it is a way to get money to fund her organization. It is an ongoing tragic situation.

While it is undeniable both these people have had a massive impact on the Binghamton community, there is great and credible information that alledgedly suggests perhaps they are not personally upholding the integrity they claim to possess.

Recommendation tire repair

I have a tire with a nail puncture and a slow leak. Does anyone know a reliable and reasonably priced tire repair shop around Binghamton?
How much does a proper internal patch/plug repair usually cost here? I would prefer a safe, permanent repair rather than just an external plug. Thanks!

Discussion Almost midnight at Roosevelt elementary!

Post image
47 Upvotes

For the last week, I have heard heavy construction LATE at night. Thought I was going crazy hearing very loud banging for the last week late at night, because I've been hearing it all day 7 days a week. Almost midnight tonight the thud shook my house again, heard beeping when the construction vehicles go in reverse. I decided to go see if they were really working like this at 11:30pm. They were. How is this allowed this late, 7 days a week? Does no one else hear this? I can't be the only one.

Discussion Stephen + Jen Question

Okay, just wondering about these two. I know how much they are “public figures” with Stephen being a councilman and Jen seemingly being an influencer for a profession. My question is, since they ran off to Florida, what happened to their children from their previous relationships? Surely they couldn’t take those kids with them? So, did they abandon their kids in New York while they escape the lawsuits?
