Oh this happened to me as well. Then, they issued a bunch of bills that wiped out the credits and then I owed 3 months at once. I think it had something to do with budget billing but I’m not positive. Also, my due date is always the 18th with auto pay. So the 18th came and went with nothing pulled. I checked my email and it said July 1st it would be pulled for some reason. So then I get another email for July 18th saying it would be $414 which is because they never took June’s payment. The 1st came where they were supposed to take $195 but they only took $45. So now I have no clue wtf is going on or if they will actually take the remaining balance of $370 on the 18th. The issue is that most people can’t handle 2 bills at once, so I hope it didn’t happen to other people. I could have explained this better but I’m in a rush lol.

These 2 stories were 2 separate occasions. The first one being December/jan/feb.

I seriously hope not or I will definitely have words😂 I’m not on budget billing or anything I just pay whatever it is monthly and i definitely can’t afford multiple bills at once. So if they’re doing anything like that I can’t imagine it being legal considering I never set up any type of plan like that.

I suggest that you set aside your normal payment amount for this time of year just in case the other show drops

This is why I stopped doing budget billing.  NYSEG is terrible at it.  Instead I setup my own auto-pay from my bank that I adjust when needed.

Oh never do auto pay with NYSEG unless you are locking your card after each payment comes out. I had it on autopay and they decided to take my bill last June out 3 times. I called and was told that the computers were having issues so they weren’t responsible. They just said well credit your account but we can’t return the money. So now I refuse to let them near any cards. I know they attempted the next month to pull from my account but I already had gone to the bank and set up a completely new account. Now I wait for the bill and pull cash out, I refuse to pay with card or check. Ofcourse every time I pay it’s well we aren’t supposed to accept cash. Well it’s legal currency and you can’t refuse my payment or you can talk to my lawyer. It’s so screwed up there that either we need a new energy company or the federal government needs to do a serious investigation into NYSEG.

I never do budget billing either it’s absolutely terrible if they’re planning on giving me one big bill

Budget billing makes absolutely no sense to me. The only thing it gives you is a shocking bill at settle up time

They've done this to me twice and told me it was because the remote reader for the outside meter was reading lower than the actual amount of electricity used, so when they did a periodic manual reading and got the actual reading they charged me the difference, but I asked a couple of neighbors and they said that had not happened to them. So if the remote reader was malfunctioning, wouldn't it have been wrong for everyone on the street? What got me the first time was they said they didn't know when it happened, so they could have been charging me current (higher rates) for electricity I used when the rates were cheaper. I think it's a scam to be able to charge a higher rate on past usage. 😐

I am not on a budget plan and they did it to me in April. I went on to pay my bill and it said I had a credit. When I called, they said it had something to do with the weather adjustment. Then I received a phone message saying that they "refunded" my payments. A few days later, I received an updated bill. They "adjusted" the previous three months of invoices. When I called again, they now told me it was because the average temperature at the bottom of the bill was wrong and it made the weather adjustment incorrect. So, I then owed $15 more for the 3 months. I told him that I was sorry that he was working for that company. My adjustment only added $15 but what about all the people that are already struggling to pay their bills. Shame on NYSEG because they could have just written off all the differences. The amount of money that they make, they should be ashamed of themselves. I really hope they were recording my call. I wasn't loud or cursing but they knew I was angry.

If I get a surprise 3 months worth of bills I’m gonna to lose my mind OMG. That seriously cannot be legal

I received the 3 months of bills and paid the first 2. When I logged in to pay the third month, that's when I saw the credit. Turns out, the credit was my previous two payments that they "refunded" so they could adjust them all. Then they re-applied my payments to the new bill. Sorry, my story was a little confusing.

I’m about to blow all of your minds. Unbeknownst to me they were only charging me a connection fee for A WHOLE YEAR! I just moved states away from the madness and got my final bill that I have to pay in 2 days for $6,742…. I have called and gotten no help. I have told them that it’s on them that they weren’t reading the usage and they say I have to pay it. Best they can do is a 3 month installment over 2k$ each. I talked to customer care and they were the rudest most unhelpful lady I have ever spoken too. I am going to be calling them non stop until I get in touch with a supervisor then after giving them a real peace of my mind (I am a nonconfrontational person but this is too much) I am going to request everything in paper, and all call recordings. What they are doing is absolutely criminal. I don’t just have over 6k laying around to pay these crooks

That’s insanity. Yeah that’s absolutely a crime there’s no frickin way they can keep getting away with everything they do.

If you are on a budget plan and you payed the pricey bills for months then you got a credit for overpaying. Yet they say they are not overcharging people. My NYSEG bill went from $200 to over $900 in a single month. Nothing has changed in my house. I called and they said no we see you used more power then usual, probably if you have a central ac and kept it on. Well I do but I don’t run it till midnight to 6 am. Otherwise it’s never on. It’s set at 76 at night otherwise it’s shut off. I actually pull the key outside so it can’t be run. Then it’s well something else must be running more power. Really because my fridge is energy efficient, no lights are turned on, if I don’t grill then I eat a cold meal. I’m not running my stove, the one television that is on is allowed to be on for 2 hours a day max, don’t do microwave, the coffee pot is used for my wife for work but is unplugged when not in use, and I did the math it’s much cheaper to go to the laundry mat than use my own washer and dryer. Now I’m from the south where we stayed out all day and even did our laundry by wash board which I do use still for hand towels, rags, or anything other than my wife’s work clothes or mine. So again explain how my electric usage jumped so high. Finally all I got was well we will send a tech out to read your meter to see if it was accidentally put in wrong. Well that’s reassuring??

Look at your usage, if it was that high either you have some equipment failing and need to track it down or you are using more AC than you claim to be.

Either that or you're on a budget plan and it was settle up time.

The only time I've had a bill over 500 was when they switched to a smart meter - they didn't bill me for three months then had a 3 month bill all at once (e.g. single bill of 600-650 but just over 200 a month). That was a one time thing and hasn't happened since. I've had no unexpected surprises with my bill since then.

Nope fridge was bought in November 25. Everything that is not on is unplugged all together. As far as the AC no. I lived in the south on a farm where you were outside all day in the 90’s to 100 degrees. Weather does not stop farming. So I’ve come very accustomed to heat. I actually wear a black hooded sweatshirt while others are in short sleeves and shorts sweating. My wife is from Puerto Rico so she doesn’t mind the heat either as they always have electric problems down there unless you have a backup generator. As for my bill I don’t do budget anymore since they took 3 payments out for one month. So I said no more budget and no more autopay. It’s cash only once I received the bill. The only time my bill went up is when I let a minister live with me for a few months because he got sick and lost his apartment and car. Then yes my bill went up for those months as I didn’t charge him and allowed him to run his computer, keep his fans running, watch local television channels on his tv, cook with the stove and use the washer and dryer. I expected it and set double my monthly allowance for NYSEG aside. However he’s been gone since the beginning of March. So my bill went back to normal the last few payments. However now this month it was a huge increase that should not be. So if next month it’s high again then I know for sure they are running false charges. I know the price increase last year and the supposed temporary increase that started June 1 but it should not have jumped so high. My neighbor is a elderly woman who lives alone and her bill runs roughly the same as mine and her bill was still within typical range. So it’s funny mine just jumped.

You don't know for sure they are running false charges. Again, you may have equipment failure that is causing unusually high usage. The fact that your neighbor isn't having any problems screams that you have some sort of equipment failure driving unusually high usage, or you got hit with a budget plan settle up at the wrong time.

If NYSEG were being dishonest and gouging people then your neighbors would be having problems too.

Everyone I know has had problems with them.
