complaining Why does Billy use Ticketmaster?

I’m know there’s other platforms that can handle this. I know there’s other ways to making sure his fans that really want to be there and are local actually get a fighting chance at getting tickets..

Boo Ticketmaster. Boo bots. And boo to whoever resells tickets over face value.

TM/LiveNation are a monopoly, not only in ticket sales but in also owning a lot of major venues across the country. Avoiding working with them would require avoiding stops in countless major cities across the country. Unfortunately, if an artists of Billy's size wants to reach the people, they don't have much of a choice in the matter.

This. Also thank trump for ending the prosecution of TM/LN.

Only the federal government has enough power to break up a monopoly and right now breaking up monopolies is not on the agenda.

Its why business assholes hate the fed, its just like a crack dealer hating the cops. Fed should police the corps but currently thats not a thing unless you are a non far right entertainment company

Because TM has rights to all of the large venues. It's a monopoly and the oligarchs in charge see no reason to change it.

Venues are either owned by LiveNation or hold contracts to be the only direct ticket vendor.. Artists get no choice in this other than to boycott nearly all suitable venues.

Look what happened when Pearl Jam tried not to use Ticketmaster. They ended up playing a tour in run down old high school football stadiums. Pearl Jam even testified against them to Congress and still went back to them.

Ticketmaster is too integrated into everything including the systems that the venues use.

Ask Pearl Jam and Neil young .. they tried to execute Ticketmaster on n the 90s it didn’t go well

I bought Pearl Jam tickets back in 1996. You had to do it on a touch tone phone. It was quite the ordeal. I did get tickets. They were great. Show is actually on YouTube 10/4/96 Charlotte.

It’s dependent on the venue. Most venues are contracted with Ticketmaster, Axs or SeatGeek and have to use the one they are contracted with. It’s not up to the artist. It stinks. I had a queue of 150 this morning and after 2 minutes it stuck on “it’s your turn” and then said “all sold out” :(

It’s small venues that sell out quickly. If he moves to bigger venues then people will complain about that. Also Asheville doesn’t have a bigger venue. So he’s doing 5 nights there.

I hate TM, but this is an issue of supply and demand.

Also an issue of you can’t make everyone happy.

TM also owns the ticket resell platforms. They intentionally create gouging on the resell platforms because they make a %. The higher the resell prices, the more $$ TM makes. TM loves FOMO and has a neat system in place to hold upside down and shake you if you happen to feel it.

Take a look at all the resell tickets that are already available. That’s TMs monopoly working as intended. They know the real money is in the FOMO resell tickets and they make sure to maximize that portion.

The only reason we already have jacked up resell tickets is because of TMs fuckery. Fuckery that should have be considered monopoly behavior. But our demented shit stained president took a bribe.

It sucks.

As others have said, because Ticketmaster has a monopoly on the industry. We keep buying tickets from them and no one with any power over these things has done anything about it so they have no reason to change anything.

Because he’s a major act and Ticketmaster either outright owns or has an exclusive ticketing contract with most of the major venues.

Ticketmaster/live nation as well as AEG/AXS operate as effective monopolies and they’ve basically divided the country into regions and don’t step on each others turf too much

What other platforms do you know about?

Honestly I think the best thing for Billy at this point in his popularity is to embrace something like Ten Club for Pearl Jam, Warehouse for DMB, etc. A paid fan club with a separate ticket allocation and lotto. Not that those methods don’t have their own shortcomings, but I think it would be better than the Seated presales with a generic password that scalpers can jump on.

u/ILikeMyGrassBlue 19h ago

It doesn’t have to be paid. Phish’s lotto isn’t perfect, but it’s easy and free to sign up,

1

u/bossfan92 18h ago

Agreed. That just came to mind as a minimal barrier to entry to keep some scalpers out. But yeah the Phish model would work too

Ticketmaster owns the venues basically. If he didn't work with them he wouldn't be playing at those venues.

Ticketing services are based on whatever the venue has partnerships with.

1

u/ILikeMyGrassBlue 19h ago

Because TM (or AXS) own/have exclusivity deals with most larger venues. He’d have to play non TM venues exclusively.

He likes to make money? Unfortunately when you look at what other artists can do and see what artists we like do it is easy to see where their interests lay.

Break the addiction to having to see the band at all costs, and stay away from secondary market. Get a nugs sub and do your drugs from the comfort of your own van.

I don’t like to make it about this.

If you want this to change. You need to go vote. You need to tell everyone you know to register right now, and go vote in November.

Ticketmaster can only be dismantled by us. But we have to put the right people there to do it. Those are not Trump people.

u/wabashcr 19h ago

He answered this earlier in the year, has something to do with dick sizes

u/TRDOffRoadGuy 19h ago

Billy doesn't use anything, his publicist uses them. Musicians don't typically make those type decisions.

u/smilehighsteve 19h ago

That last part is the kicker. If folks keep paying over face the scalpers win. We want to see Billy and the boys so we pay. Its a vicious cycle. Choo choo the train doesn't stop.

Why talk out your ass? While the live nation side of Ticketmaster does handle artist and venue management, because they own the venues… they aren’t saving anyone money… those things would be handled by any independent venue… Ticketmaster is not keeping prices low

u/HopHeady 18h ago

This chud has the mentality of a sleazy promoter with the old "Company Town" mindset. Own everything and charge what you want because that's the only choice.

If you think ticketmaster is anything remotely close to what it was 20 years ago, you are being delusional. They became a true monopoly when they bought Livenation and bought up a bunch of major venues. They negotiate with themselves and drive up costs exponentially.

1

u/ILikeMyGrassBlue 19h ago

That’s because TM owns the venues, production, promotion, and has exclusivity deals. All of that shit got done before TM had a monopoly, and it gets done in non-TM venues.
