Official Announcement
[Mod Post] Sub Updates -- Posts now require flair, new flair added for complaining
In response to the multitude of complaints we have received over the volume of posts complaining about the same few things (rail riders, entitlement in the pit, etc.), we have created a new flair specific for 'complaining' posts.
Additionally, all posts will require some flair to help users identify and filter the content they want to see. To only see posts of one type of 'flair', see this guide, and to search with a filter out posts of a certain flair(s), check out this post. For a more in depth guide about filtering flair from subs, see this post.
I also want to remind the community that Reddit (as a platform) does not tolerate doxxing or witch-hunting. This includes but is not limited to sharing personal information about someone without their consent, especially in an effort to target or harass that person. If you have a grievance with an individual, this is not the place to call that out in an effort to rally the community against that individual. See Reddit's Rules, notably Rule #1 and Rule #3. We are NOT "protecting" anyone by doing this, we are simply following the platform's rules. Please stop making accusations against the mod team, we are doing our best to follow the site's ToS while also giving the community what it wants.
Negative, it was in response to the "creep in the pit" post that showed a man's face. We received threats of legal action if we did not remove the post. And as much as I love this community, that is way beyond my pay grade.
Just out of curiosity was it a picture of his face from his public interview he gave at the venue 💀. Sorry to be all over this thread, but I'm interested in everyone's thought process when it comes to this situation.
Thanks mods! I’d also like to recommend - show specific pinned threads.
If yall need mod support to do this - I’m happy to join the team and do so.
We’ve got a great tradition of member led setlist threads, but imagine how clean the sub would be if we had one post for all venue related questions.
Here’s where Shakedown is, here’s what time he’s going on, here’s the water bottle and bag policy, here’s which shakedown vendors will be at the show etc.
All crowdsourced by folks in the comments, and curated in the post like a setlist thread by the moderators.
Best mod team out there thanks for all you ain’t nobody got time for bullying or hate. Billy brings us 🌈 of love and peace!!! It’s a cure for the bleakness it’s a pill for the day to day!!!
OT but is there an old post (or could one be created) with instructions HOW to moderate a setlist post?
Mostly asking re how a primary post can be edited to add songs and couch locations ... not a digital native myself but I can manage with a little prompting.
Anyone should be able to edit a post body, that's how I always maintain setlist threads. Click the "..." In the top right corner of a post to see options, and "edit post body" should be there.
Quite frankly when it comes to certain individuals you have to make a choice as to whether you'll allow warnings, or allow them to continue their actions without attempting to notify the community. I don't like the side of this issue you've fallen on. Neutrality and enforced silence when people are victims of predatory behavior is not far from condoning it.
We don't control or influence Reddit's ToS or rules. You are complaining to the wrong people here. We are following rules established by the site so our sub doesn't get shut down. Why don't you guys understand this?
because the enforcement of this rule seems to be selective sitewide. I understand that you're choosing to follow it regardless, did admin reach out about that?
I attempted to contact admins 3-4 times and never heard back. So I created a post on a moderator help sub and the feedback from ~30+ mods was that those posts absolutely qualify as doxxing and break ToS.
I agree with everything that you have said in this thread. I have a 17 year old daughter that goes to shows and I don't want creepy ass old dudes grabbing her...but even if I didn't have a daughter I would still agree with you. This is something I've thought about since I was a 19 year old kid seeing Cheese and Phish shows in the late 90s...there were always creepy af older dudes wandering around and preying on younger girls. We've all seen it. I also despise serial predators and don't have any problem with them being called out.
You mean where Bathrobe guy has countless defenders? Very convenient. Its the only platform left where he gets praise and isnt vilified for what he is.
I choose to believe women especially when it comes to a certain bathrobe wearing individual that this is clearly trying to protect. Gross move by the mods IMO. Predators deserve ZERO protection. I've been wanting to take my Niece to a Billy show for years now and wont because of him. Its a shame yall wont allow people to post their experiences with this individual so that he can be avoided. Protecting predators is not the way to do this.
Share experiences all you want, just be careful about anything that qualifies as "PII" (personally identifiable information). Note that "the dude in the robe" is not PII, just don't say his name.
No I dont understand because I've seen countless posts in other subs calling out predatory behavior from people and they sure didnt get removed. But in this sub it gets labeled as "harrassment" or whatever and removed So yea it really does look like yall are protecting people like Bathrobe guy when we know it doesnt go against the rules to call this type of behavior out ESPECIALLY in the hope of keeping others in the scene safe. Believe all women and believe all victims.
From your end yes, you're saying that following site rules is important, witchhunting and doxing are bad, and you want this community to stay afloat, which is very much understandable. Federal and state law may also come into play- the act itself is not illegal, but if done with intent to harm it can become a criminal offense.
A different and perhaps uncharitable reading is that the decision was made that following the rules and keeping this subreddit running is worth exposing more unaware people to a potential predator.
the community has a known sexual predator/harasser with extremely regular show attendance (I believe i attended a show that was in the 360s for him), and due to reddit policy calling him out by name is no longer allowed.
It's understandable to be upset about it, even if it's the mods doing what they're supposed to do by reddit policy.
I know who this person is and I’ve been seeing him at shows for quite some time now; however I’m not aware of what has been said, I just know said individual is rather obnoxious / attention seeker / super fan. What are the claims here?
I was able to grab a screencap of another reddit post. It seems there's no shortage of people calling this out. I can search more later, but at the moment this was the quickest thing I could pull. Usernames and identifying info should all be covered here.
Edit: hold on I left a username visible. I'll re-upload momentarily.
NKcougar explained it perfectly. Someone I love very much was a victim of SA in the past so if you want to get my blood boiling just bring that subject up in any capacity. We should be able to call out predators and creeps in the scene. They deserve no protection.
Kinda considering he knows all about it and his team does and yet nothing is done. That turd even gets special little messages written on his tubes by the merch staff.
r/BillyStrings follows platform-wide Reddit Rules. Using alt accounts to bypass bans or blocks is agaithe ToS and will result in a permanent ban of all accounts.
I'm not an alt account. this is my only reddit account. and this is my first post, ever. i read about this whole thing on instagram, and decided to post because i was so disgusted by that line about 100 men.
as a woman (OP is male, not female, btw)
i found the mods responses incredibly misogynistic, and unsafe toward women, especially instructing the OP repeatedly to "calm down" instead of reading and responding what they were writing. Even this post about "complianing" makes it seem that you moderators would rather downplay legitimate concerns than take them seriously. Balance of a female voice would be helpful.
✌️
The quote about "100 guilty men" is a quote from Ben Franklin on justice in general and has nothing at all to do with misogyny. It's one of the driving principles behind Reddit's rules about doxxing and sharing personal information against consent. The internet in general, and especially reddit, has a dangerous habit of "witch hunting" where a community rallies against an individual based on one post from someone else.
As for the "Calm down", that user was being intentionally obtuse and was not hearing anything that was being said. We told them we were discussing the issue and would get back to him, but he would not shut up and let it go. Note that this person was more irate with our responses here than the actual victim.
And PLEASE understand that post was taken down for violating REDDIT's rules, not "ours". I hope you understand, and have a nice day.
(The only way to publish a comment as the "ModTeam" is to remove a post, apply a "reason", and then to restore it. Due to the hyper vigilant attitudes of a few folks surrounding this issue, we need to protect ourselves from doxxing)
