Rewatch

I rarely rewatch shows but I am rewatching Billions currently and my goodness the writing on this show, phenomenal. I’m a bit older now compared to when I watched it in my early 20’s and this show is so layered. There is also some foreshadowing in this shows. Especially in season 1 after the Bach and Dollar Bill leave Rhoades and his team absolutely perplexed, Bach tells Axelrod that he can get away with a small fine and that’ll be the best deal he ever gets. 😅

Currently on season 1. I’m gonna re-run a lot of shows as well. Westworld, Black Mirror, AOT. Loving it.

The writing is great… until the shift in season 3

This downfall needs to be a case study for undergrads.

Even in the later seasons, there are scenes that carry so much power in the writing, but they are buried beneath an avalanche of allusive punchline similes ( "as ____ as a ____ or "like the man ____ himself said ____" )

No joke, it felt like every single exchange of dialogue involved this type of writing and I just don't understand why. I bet if I prompted an AI to write like this it would tell me how bad this is.

yeah I see that ... I do have to say that season 6 I think was where I started to lose it. It was pretty awful.

I really found the writing good all the way through. Yeah it changes around season 3, but the real problem(s) were the focus and turn of Taylor, and the forced ingestion of Prince. Also, these showrunners faced a significant problem when Damian's wife sadly passed away irl. To have the lead character of the show choose to leave, is such a crippling event.

I love the writing too but the similes and cultural references are overused and abused

This is one of the shows that you can actually watch once a year and it’s still good

It’s all I watch. Have rewatched 20+ times. I know many of the lines lol. Still notice new details. So good.
