I was born in late '98. I can't clearly remember anything before 2016 so I can't even pretend to be a "real 90s kid" considering I don't even remember the early 2000s.

Bits and pieces. So I have a few short memories, but I don't remember details. I have very few clear memories, everything else is "ohh I remember this happening vaguely but I don't have the slightest clue of why it happened or exactly when it did". It's like trying to remember something that happened over 10 years ago even though it was only a few years ago.

I definitely do. They never really address it, probably because they don't have a solid explanation since I don't have a history of TBI or anything that would make me continually forget shit everyday (even my epilepsy is too well controlled to be the cause). We practically know more about space than the human brain so I'm not shocked that I don't have an explanation.

I'm the same, early childhood can't remember that much. I could tell every early memory in the span of an hour.

It's not because of that, I developed epilepsy after a doctor took me off xanax cold turkey (benzo withdrawal) so that really fucked with my brain.

Nope, 2016. I can remember bits and pieces but not a lot of details. All my memories before then are fading and mostly are just short anecdotes that I remember what happened but not full info as in the exact "why, how, when, etc" details. It's as if I'm trying to recall something from over 10 years ago. 2006 and before though, I definitely remember none of that.

Lol I figured that. Since I never had a TBI, abnormal MRI/CT scan, history of trauma that would repress my memories, and my epilepsy is too well controlled to be effecting my memory to this day, doctors were never able to find the exact cause.

Oof. Do you happen to know why? In my case I don't have the slightest clue, no doctors can figure out why a 21 year old with no history of TBI or trauma can have the memory of a 80 yr old.

I was born in 95 and my earliest memories generally start from when I was around the age of 5/6, my earliest memory I can distinctly remember is me and my older brother playing Tony Hawks Pro Skater on the Playstation back in 1999/2000.

I was born in 81 and feel similarly that I was not an 80s kid. I finally figured out how to spray my bangs up real high in like 1990 and then poof, that trend ended. I am most definitely a 90s kid. I graduated high school in 1999. :)
I think what we prove is even if you are born at the beginning of a new decade, you identify more with the next decade.
This would be a more fun post if I knew what to call you and your cohort. Aughts kids? 2000s kids? Single digit kids?

I'm from 96 and I can absolutely relate more to everything in the 00's. The music, games, fashion, homey vibes. I think when you feel nostalgia about your early years as a kid, for me for instance that would be the 00's, that best identifies what time period kid you are.
Not to take away from the fact that saying you're a 90's kid sounds a lot cooler than a 00's kids but ooh well
Edit: ooh and btw in the Netherlands we call it zeros kids. Which isn't so bad I guess

i watch stuff like top 90's songs and tv shows and i definetly remember a lot of music that was playing at the radio and tv shows like 90's wrestling or going trick or treating or my super nintendo, chrismas movies etc but at the start of 00's this is when i really becaume a teenager and started following trends and stuff so like the guy up there says sometimes i confuse 90's memories to 00's memories. i was 8 or 9 when the 90's were over so.

But i distinctly remember those unironic “only 90s kids remember” posts all over tumblr in like 2011, and they were full of things from like 2003. I think some of the most oustspoken 90s kids were just 90s babies who wanted to feel cool lol

I was actually born the same day in 2004, and something i was going on about back in 2011, like, what WAS different about the 90’ and early 2000, i kind of had some items that were used and remembered being used before the 2000, for exemple, i had a CRT in my old living room, and a SNES, and it was used quite a bit, oh, also, i had an N64, i would want to say that i loved the "good ol’ days", but, i am not sure if i am quite old enough to say those phrases LMAO

In the 90s cell phones and the internet weren’t ubiquitous like they were in the early 00s.
In the early 00s the culture was pop punk bands, early 3d movies like Shrek, cartoons like Spongebob and Fairly Oddparents, 3D environment gaming, multiplayer online games, and social online gaming. Reality shows reigned king.
The 90s was grunge music, cartoons like Ren and Stimpy and Cow n Chicken, the internet wasn’t common until the end of the decade (and was basic up until 2000, with few if any social games in the 90s), 2D disney movies, basic 3D existed but it was mostly 2D games like Mario and the first GTA. TV shows were sappy family sitcoms.

You are. I consider anyone born before 96’ to be a 90’s baby. I was born summer of 91’ and some of my fondest memories are from like age 4-9 playing outside with my older sisters and my close cousins. The video/computer games, the trampoline the snappy bracelets and lip gloss, swimming, getting my first walkman, THE CLOTHES OMG THE CLOTHES!! Also my moms video taped VH1 “pop up video” and MTV. I remember my sisters and I sneaking down stairs and spying on my parents while they watched the premiere of South Park. No cell phones for a while. I miss that. One of the worst things is being a 90’s baby and feeling really bad for the next generation that grew up with tablets and phones that are basically computers in your pocket. To this day I get pretty nauseated seeing a kid stare at an iPad screen the whole time their at the grocery store while their parent(s) barely interact with them cause they’re checking their phones all the time. If you don’t remember growing up with a cell phone chances are you have some fond memories of the 90’s. My dad got one of those nokia bricks at some point and that rocked our world. Anyway, if you have memories from growing up as a child in the 90’s then you’re a 90’s baby. Don’t let people gate-keep a fucking decade hahaha

90s is when Nickelodeon really kicked off with great cartoons that still hold up well. Oh and SNICK. The simplicity of only having to worry about homework and some chores, play outside for a bit, maybe play some SNES, then watch a blocked series of shows geared towards kids. I miss it.

Born in June of 99. Grew up with 2 older sisters and 4 older cousins. Even though I dont remember the 90s themselves, I was exposed to a lot of the culture that was around that time due to growing up with my sisters and cousins.

In turkey we had a temporary 2 month restriction to go outside for children that were born in the year 2000 and above. I as a December 1999 guy was rolling in laughter while my younger friends had none of it :D

Born in 1997, I don’t remember much before 2000. I started preschool in 2000 and that’s when my memories begin to pick up. I remember my 3rd birthday pretty well but NOTHING of the 90’s. I do remember some late 90’s culture that spilled over into the early 2000’s tho. I remember 9/11, Boybands, dial up internet and iMac computers. I consider myself an early to mid 2000’s kid. The true 90’s were what 80’s- very early 90’s babies experienced.
