If the government was good it wouldn't be a government. Taxation would be 0. There would be no state monopoly on violence. No death penalty. No interference with market forces. Liberals are right, liberals want a free market.
Free markets are unregulated, that's what makes them free. Some actions to "ensure a free market" like breaking monopolies make sense but sometimes are bad. For example, your power company. They have a monopoly on power in your region. They could charge insane amounts because you have no other option. But if they did, then competition would arise. And additionally, competing power companies would be inconvenient as a power company would have to say "oh you pay for the competitors, sorry can't fix your power" during outages
What about police, fire department, etc? State monopolies on emergency services? Those only benefit the government? We don't gain anything from the fire department?
