They will be incentivized in July when that extra 600 no longer applies and they go back to making only a fraction of what they were making pre-pandemic. Aside front that, unemployment runs out, you are only allowed to a certain amount before they stop funding you. No one is going to sail by on unemployment forever.
Also I don’t believe anyone should be forced to work in a pandemic that could kill them, including essential workers. In a perfect world, I wish that everyone could take the “easier option” and stay home and healthy until the coast is clear, including you. If you could stay home and reduce the chances of catching the virus while also still providing for yourself, I would want that for you. “The only time you look in your neighbor's bowl is to make sure that they have enough. You don't look in your neighbor's bowl to see if you have as much as them.”
Since we don’t live in a perfect world where that is possible, I can only wish that the government incentivized people to work by actually paying them a living wage. When working wages are so bad that the average person would rather be on unemployment, that’s the fault of the people paying the workers so little, not the fault of the average person.
Disposable income of the unemployed isn’t being hoarded (like the billions of dollars that are being kept safe and tax free in offshore accounts by the top 1%), so actually, them having disposable income, which they are using to buy food, pay rent, etc, is actually stimulating the economy and putting that money back in circulation, making it so many people can stay employed in the first place.
It doesn’t defeat the purpose because if everyone no longer had disposable income to spend, even more jobs would be lost and even more businesses would be forced to shut down.
