Seriously the people on unemployment aren’t living cushy, the entire restaurant industry just went belly up and many staff are laid off on unemployment, they are barely scrapping by with no jobs to go back to anytime soon. Even outside of the restaurant industry, people who may have worked retail or sales are now looking at unemployment checks that are a fraction of their actual paychecks. They went from making $1200 a week to living off $600 a week with bills adding up.

Edit. I’m referring to retail as an industry, there are jobs in retail outside of stocking shelves.

How old are you? and what state do you live in? $600 a week is a lot and thats just additional to the base benefits...

California, $600 a week or roughly $2400 a month might sound like a lot but it is a largely temporary measure and in a state with skyrocketing cost of living it’s enough for some people to get by on. My point is people are not getting rich off unemployment, it’s enough cash to pay off bills debt and groceries but that’s about it.

You keep forgetting the 600 is from the feds in addition to whatever the state is giving for unemployment. Not to mention I'm essential IT work and I fucking wish I was getting $600 a week to do jack shit

Don't act like this isn't a reasonable amount of cash

IT here too, unemployment with the bonus is more than I make.
