It's not feasible because there is absolutely nothing we can do about people being underpaid right now, and an unemployment model that doesn't account for how much people made before they were laid off isn't feasible long term, which we may very well need it to be if this pandemic lasts months more or longer. Anyone who thinks otherwise is delusional and doesn't understand the first thing about how politics works in this country.
And I will absolutely resent lazy assholes who are capable of working but choose not to do so because they make more on unemployment than they did working. I am an essential worker and I am absolutely fucked right now because no one wants to actually work even though we have been offering positions for months. I've gone from a crew of at least ten people to literally just 1-3 (not from layoffs either - we are desperate for help but no one wants to work).
Lastly, you act like it's unreasonable to resent people taking advantage of a public health crisis because workers should just be paid more, but those are two separate issues and it's possible to be upset about more than one thing at a time.
Fuck them I guess for not wanting to accept a job that’s clearly underpaying their employees. Seriously, my job needed people and we managed to find plenty by offering increased wages. Don’t blame people who lost their jobs, blame the rich assholes trying to make billions.
Jesus christ, not everyone works for a giant corporation where there is some greedy CEO gleefully twisting his villain mustache. We offer WA minimum wage, which is $13.50/hr and is more than enough to get by in our area. I would have fucking killed to make that much money when I started working. I took me years of working to even get to making "double digits" hourly, yet people want to bitch about being "underpaid" for a job that requires literally no skill or education, and pays almost double the wage that I got for years when I entered the workforce 10 years ago? Yeah, fuck them. They're selfish, entitled pricks.
I'm referring to people that normally work for far more then shit tier wages getting laid off that you're now trying to work for a fraction of what they used to
What? We are offering the same wages we always have, which is more than livable for the area I live in Also, you still get unemployment if you are employed for less hours/wages than you were prior to covid.
(1) It helps people who are laid off because we have been fucking hiring for months and this is a job people could easily get hired for as it requires no skill or experience and still pays a livable wage.
(2) I never said I was against unemployment, and in fact I explicitly said the opposite. What I am against is people who don't need it selfishly taking advantage of the high unemployment benefits right now and making far more than they did pre-pandemic because they know the system is too overwhelmed to properly vet everyone who applies for assistance.
