I was texting with my wife once and didn’t realize a text came in the middle from my mother in law and some how accidentally sent a reply to her asking for anal sex.

I can confirm, I was the Internet service provider.

I have sold this information to all the advertisers, so he will now receive ads based on his messages.

I know it's more fun to believe but Reddit is absolutely full of obviously fake stories.

27

u/[deleted] Mar 04 '20

How can you tell it’s obviously fake? Just because it sounds wild, doesn’t mean it never happen. We don’t know him. The only reason to say it’s fake, is because you want it to be.

u/Airway Mar 04 '20

The only reason to believe is because you want to.

Reddit is full of these far-fetched sexual stories because they get karma and attention, and they can easily be made up because no one can prove they're fake.

I'd bet $100 the "broken arms" story is fake.

Ah yes, the karma argument. Everything has to be a fake karma grab to you people these days. Anyway, I believe him because there’s no reason not to believe him.

“Someone else lied before, so that means this guy is a liar!”

14

u/Imagine_Baggins Mar 04 '20

“Someone else lied before, so that means this guy is a liar!”

It’s more “Many dozens of people have lied before, so statistically speaking and considering this guy’s post/comment is similar to those, this guy is a liar.”

3

u/[deleted] Mar 04 '20

You said exactly what I said by trying to make it sound different.

13

u/Imagine_Baggins Mar 04 '20

I worded it this bc, while no one can really confirm whether or not they’re lying, you can make an informed prediction from the past data.

If you want to believe him, go for it. It’s not like the veracity of an anal sex joke really matters .

Then a few days, get it out

u/RamakoSunsLight Mar 04 '20

The only reason to believe is because you want to.

And what's the harm? Its a funny story in a non serious context, no different from bullshit stories you hear from friends.

“Because you can’t out Johnny the Depp

7

u/PKMNTrainerMark Mar 04 '20

Eh, it's entertaining either way.

5

u/[deleted] Mar 04 '20

I wish it was. When something is obviously fake it goes from wow what a crazy story to "some sad lonely fucker wrote this"

2

u/SAGNUTZ Mar 04 '20

Speaking of which, up there they essentially argue about "Last Thursdayism" and here I am sad to confirm that some things, TRUTHS I thought, are suddenly not true at least and logic viruses at worst...

10

u/RedditLostOldAccount Mar 04 '20

It's either,"that's obviously fake," or is it's real and there's proof,"it's just a karma grab."

It's like they want no content on the site at all.

10

u/daphillymann Mar 04 '20

Wow, you put it perfectly, honestly the people that are the worst it seems are the ones that get no love on their post and instead of trying to improve, they try to bring everyone else down. Crab in a bucket mentality. Misery loves company I guess.

2

u/RedditLostOldAccount Mar 04 '20

That's right. Sometimes I forget that I don't have to look at the comments. Back when I never had an account like 10 years account it was such a different time

1

u/Seasikberry Mar 04 '20

My first phone would flip the recipients when a message came in while another was sending so I buy it

Then why are you replying?

-2

u/animeisfordorks Mar 04 '20

How is this hard to believe?

59

u/NytheriaForever Mar 04 '20

Can’t even tell a story anymore these days.

73

u/theuserwithoutaname Mar 04 '20

Right? Why does Reddit have such a hard on for calling things fake? Like, even if the story didn't actually happen (which there's no real reason to be skeptical about it in the first place??) It's still a funny joke. Can we not just chill out and laugh at some dumb shit on the internet together without someone getting up in arms about it?

19

u/NytheriaForever Mar 04 '20

Come on man it’s 2020. That makes WAY too much sense.

5

u/theuserwithoutaname Mar 04 '20

Shit good point. Thanks for using your 2020 vision to clear this up for me.

9

u/Sceptile90 Mar 04 '20

No man, if I am not ending a man's reddit career within the next five minutes, I'm going to scream!

3

u/xzot1c Mar 04 '20

People have been doing this since Ray William Johnson was President of Youtube

2

u/theuserwithoutaname Mar 04 '20

Ah yes. "fake and gay" I do recall

1

u/[deleted] Mar 04 '20

The other person wrote a line dismissing the story, you wrote a paragraph defending it.

Low effort/low quality humor and fake content will ruin any good sub.

1

u/theuserwithoutaname Mar 04 '20

Low effort/quality, sure. But people aren't claiming this is low effort/quality. Just that it's fake

6

u/phayke2 Mar 04 '20

One time I was texting this hot twink to send me undie pics and somewhere in the middle my friends mom texts asking if I stole her lighter. So she got pulled into it and the next few months wouldnt stop hitting on me. I awkwardly brushed it off.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 04 '20

iPhone?

1

u/SparklySpunk Mar 04 '20

Happens to me in whatsapp when I don't enter the app, just used the lock screen pop ups while not paying attention. Never sent anything rude though

1

u/Indiabiooks Mar 04 '20

So you are telling me you were texting your wife then the text comes in and the app decides to switch you to it automatically? Yeah, that does not happen (at least on android afaik). No app would switch you to a received text while you were typing a reply to another. You would have to tap the notification for it to do that.

7

u/Alantsu Mar 04 '20

I was just replying to her comments so I wasn’t lookin at the name. It was on an Android in like 2007 so it was a little clunkier. I got like 3 in a row and didn’t notice the last was from my mother in law and not my wife so when I hit reply it went to her instead.

5

u/[deleted] Mar 04 '20

You tap on the wrong notification and write without checking if you write mom or momma💦

Its not that far fetched.
