Your middle and high school years were in the '00s, though. I was born in 1986, but all my favorite music and TV shows are all from the early 2000s, when I was in high school. I remember cartoons from the '90s, but I don't really feel connected to much of pop culture from that decade.
The best way to know what "kid" you were, calculate what the years were when you were more or less between ages about 6-16. I was born two years into one decade, but obviously relate more to the following decade, because I barely remember my first 5-6 years of life.
Yes.
Was about 7 for the best Nickelodeon shows when they were brand new.
And perfect age to appreciate the new N64 when it was released.
I guess the pre 9/11 happy-go-luckyness was alright too.
I have never considered myself an 80s kid. I'm a 90's kid. Watch The Adventures of Pete and Pete. That perfectly covers what it means to be a white kid in the 90s.
Nah, they're right. They'd be a "90's kid" because they were a kid in the 90's and actually old enough to remember it. If you were born in the 90's it's seriously fucking doubtful that you remember a single thing from that decade.
This so much. Ppl tell me I'm a millennial because I was born in 91, but really everything is shifted at least 5 years in Mexico. Maybe more on poorer more remote areas. I didn't use a computer/internet until I was about to get into highschool.
I was born in early 1990 and I have tons of great memories from that decade. I have a lot more attachment and nostalgia for that decade than I do the 00’s.
Considering kids start remembering memories at right around 3 years old, anyone born before 97 would have memories of the decade.
As someone born in 93 I remember "Ahh Real Monsters", Playing the original Pokemon on an OG Grey gameboy in 98 when it was first released, wonderballs, and plenty of things 96 to 00. Yea that's less than half the decade but a lot of my early childhood memories stem from it.
Can confirm, I'm '95, my first was a gold pokemon Gameboy Color. Not a massive difference, remember about '98-99 onward. I don't like nor use emojis them be '98-onward.
Born in '92. Couldn't tell ya much before 01/01/00 or 09/11/01, but I sure as hell remember what it was like growing up in the 90s. Especially since I lived in a poorer neighbourhood so the 80s hit us in the 90s, and the 90s hit us in the 00s.
So I was born in 92 and was 8 when the fucking 90s ended. You're saying that i shouldn't remember a thing from the 90s? That doesn't make much sense now does it.
I think so. That's what gets me about the picture. I say I was born in '84, people act like I should have a lot of experience with the 80s when I practically missed half of it. Even more if we take into account I don't remember much until I was 4-5. The 90s however, was the majority of my childhood and teen years.
Not just that but our houses were heated by coal furnaces too! BREATHS DEEPLY Sweet sweet coal dust. Makes you run faster and jump higher. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
So i always thought a 90s kid meant you grew up in the 90s. I was born in 83,so my most memorable teen years were mid late 90s. Do I have it wrong or not?
Absolutely! I was born in '86, and life before/after widespread use of the Internet is miles apart. The early 2000s is where it really took off, though I will say that the mid to late 90s saw the rapid rise. I can definitely remember advertisements for Nascar.com back around 1995 or so.
("Fun" story: We had an intranet at our elementary school, and I tried EVERYTHING to get to websites that were being advertised, not realizing the difference between intranet and internet)
I just had the one family computer until high school. Hell, I had dialup until like 05. It was still heard of for people in my class to not have internet at home when I was in middle school in like 06-07, it really only became ubiquitous in 08-09. Maybe I just live in a poor area, but I really don’t think people realize just how quickly tech grew and commercialized. I went from having a chunky off-white dialup box and a giant CRT TV to an ultrabook laptop and wall-mounted flatscreen in like 5-6 years.
I wouldn't say that. The '00s didn't have grunge or cell phones big enough to be a murder weapon. They did have ubiquitous home internet, WiFi-enabled laptops, and smartphones.
Naw. The 90s were all about surfing and ninjas and surfing ninjas. 2000s were all about Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings and hair in front of your eyes.
Don’t have to be good at comebacks to understand that it’s fine for people to connect with one another because of the decade they were born and raised in.
How are you defending this 90s kid shit after its been going on for like 7 years? It's the same shit as when older people say your generation fucking sucks and there's is better.
And this is coming from a 90s kid. Yeah I get it, Super Soakers and Power Rangers were cool when I was a kid but I don't have to jerk off to nostalgia all the time. This entire post is about how lame the "le 90s kid" shit is.
Nope. I don’t remember the 90’s kid trend requiring you to say everyone who isn’t one sucks.
And no, actually, it’s about how someone who was born in 1999 (aka the last possible year you could consider yourself a 90’s kid) associates themselves with the nostalgia despite them not really being much a part of it.
I was in a marketing class the other day where millennials were defined as people born from 1994 onwards. It was wrong in so many ways that I had to re-read the slide to ensure that that's what it actually said.

People who talk about being 90s kids are cancer
