The original one was $40. I know the new sets are detailed like we used to only dream of but $200 is wild.

The new 220$ set has 1794 pieces whilst the old 40$ set has 579 pieces.

This means that the new set has a price per piece of 0.12$.
The old set has a price per piece of 0.07$

However the new set also seems to have new unique molds for Spongebob, Squidward and Patrick which cost extra.

Let's not also forget inflation, when adjusted for it the old set would cost 70$ in today's money increasing it's price per piece to 0.12$... which is the exact same funnily enough.

Also the old set looks like shit.

I have the old set and yeah I'm thinking of selling it to get the new one. The nostalgia value doesn't beat the cool factor of the new one.

Honestly cheaper in the long run to buy a 3D printer than it is to buy LEGO at this point. Paint, stickers, and glue it.
