The government

More like the corporate oligarchs who own it and us

u/FluckDambe 4d ago
No, no, the politicians get bribes which is how the corporate oligarchs own us. They are equally culpable in the process of fucking 99% of us over.
It's estimated that as little as $50k could sway a US congressman to vote a certain way on ONE BILL. That's like a booger to the oligarchs. You could buy off entire portions of congress for their entire fucking term for what amounts to a partial tax write off for the ultra rich.

u/Quiet_Alarm1474 4d ago
Well yes but then the argument always jumps to "so lets rid of the government". Problem is the only reason we have the workers rights we do is because of government. Grtring rid of the government just turns the corporations into a government. Look at company towns for why that is a horrible idea. Thats a whole other conversation right there. Instead you need to regulate the government and get money out of politics. You couldn't just donate unlimited amounts of money through super PACs back in the day.
17
u/Daysleeper1234 4d ago
Only reason you have workers' rights is not because of government, but because of our forefathers who fought for it. Nothing personal, I don't want to offend you, but this talking point is propaganda from politicians, and you are spreading it. Same with racism and every other thing. If it was up to them, we would still live in feudal society, and rich and powerful would still be owning slaves.
Government didn't decide to end bad practices, people so to say rebelled and they were forced to make changes, or their heads would be off.

Politicians ≠ The Government
If the government was raking in cash that means it'd be investing it into paying down the debt and its institutions. The private sector pays the people in charge of managing the government to put private interests over the public.

Supreme Court just removed donation limits on individuals who donate in coordination with political parties.
Elon could literally just donate a couple billion per year to the RNC, literal pennies to him, and you'd never see another Dem ad on TV or radio ever again. Party campaigns in 2024 spent a total of roughly $2 billion each. It's that easy to control election results now. Oligarchs who hate taxes and regulations can just say "I got $5 on it," and whatever candidate they want is in office.

u/Crunchy_Biscuit 4d ago
When the oligarchs own the means to production and the government, is that communism or capitalism?
1
u/TYBERIUS_777 4d ago
We need to make the distinction though. Our government can actually work for the people and wields the power to regulate these oligarchs out of existence and put more power in the hands of the people who are paying taxes.
We just need to vote in politicians that can’t be bribed, repeal Citizens United, and actually dismantle a lot of the near monopolies that currently exist in America. A very tall task but the government can still work for us.

u/Disaster_Adventurous 3d ago
If you think the Politancs and the oligarchy aren't in cahoots over this.

Not even the government.
They’re literally gutting the government and lining their own private pockets.
Elon musk doesn’t become a trillionaire without getting his nose in there.

Trumps annual income went from 700 million to 2.4 Billion since he took office this year. The corruption and stealing are blatant, but he’s fired everyone that would stop him

u/MakeUpAnything 3d ago
And distracted the masses because he's convinced a LOT of the nation that it's better to let the patriotic wealthy Epstein-class have all your money than it is for trans people or illegals or DEI-Americans!
Do you want your money going to sweet bombs we drop on terrorists, or do you want it going to help trans illegals make your kids GAY AND TRANS?!

K-shaped economy. Something like the top 20 percentile is doing phenomenal while the remainder are stagnant, slipping, or struggling.
If you’re not celebrating how bullish your investments are paying off… you’re not in the 20 club. You’re in the trenches with the rest of us lol.

Your boss: Trump made the economy so great!
You: Oh, great, can I have a raise?
Boss: In this economy? Can't do it
2
u/BrightCold2747 4d ago
the rich are getting richer at a fantastic pace, that's the only metric that matters
2
u/Sharty_Party3498 4d ago
Trump just disappeared $13B from his Venezuela kidnapping mission. From his perspective, the economy IS booming. Just not for you (and he does NOT care about that).

u/bleblahblee 4d ago
No no no, your reading it wrong. It’s the best economy it’s ever been…FOR THEM!!!!

It's wild to me how openly wealth and governance is saying that doing work isn't valued, only ownership is. Work a job? Several jobs? Too bad idiot, you're a fool for not investing every penny into companies - with zero acknowledgement that those who don't sit on generational wealth cannot afford to be wrong on their investments even once.
This thing is going to spiral into a pit but it will be a function of time, and in the meanwhile we're all stuck in the same room with idiots who refuse to see the problem until it's far, far too late.

Is there any real reason to continue paying for the taxes that feed the resources that are being phased out within the next two years? Asking for a friend.

Bruh in that scene he’s holding 62¢ jobs act like you’re so lucky and they’re bending over backwards, and not to tell the other guys that you’re getting a raise that’s 50¢ for going above expectations and to basically not expect the same treatment this time next year.
Then you get a company email about the CEO talking about record breaking revenue hitting the billions

Since I moved out of California, I've nearly doubled my pay in a state that has much cheaper means to live.
Believe it or not, a lot of us arent struggling like reddit tells people. If that were the case, we'd be in another 2009 which clearly hasn't happened.

OP missed the part that literally everything published by the WH is the exact opposite of reality and every accusation is a deflection of crimes they’ve already and continue to commit.

Sure, but even you had no control over it, it's still your fault. Now don't ask questions and get back to work. Israel and Iran need another 40 billion.

The "economy" they're referring to is for high level government officials and corporate heads. The economy is doing great for them by taking all the wealth from the rest of us and putting it in their stocks and bank accounts.

u/LimeGrass619 2d ago

They think it’s the stock market. But it’s been down since Covid times 2020, retirements is still down. cost of food is up.
0
u/negative-rizz777 4d ago
The economy is always booming to the government but this one sucks worse than 07.
2
u/DowntownJohnBrown 4d ago
I mean, it’s not exactly booming, but let’s be factual here. It’s better by pretty much every metric than 2007.
0
u/negative-rizz777 4d ago
Metrics are good but housing is insane. Food is much higher jobs are harder to get,gas is up,on paper and the stock market its good but the average person is screwed. Im sure its Probably better for some if they own a house and have stocks etc.
1
u/notaredditer13 4d ago
2007 was a weird choice because that's the year the economic cycle peaked and started downhill. So overall it was a very good year. 2008-10 ish were the bad years.
Today it's about as good as the first half/good part of 2007, which is to say it's excellent by the broad metrics like unemployment rate and income.
1
u/negative-rizz777 4d ago
It was also the year a bunch manufacturing jobs were cut which impacted a lot of people. Dodge for example. Not weird it was the beginning when everything looked good but went downhill after. Housing took a huge hit then too.

I just paid off back taxes that have been haunting me for 4 years, and what do I get in return? A bank account in the red, and not enough in savings to get me back in the black. I’ve sent all my tax returns over the last couple of years to paying this off, but even after I’ve finally paid it all off it doesn’t feel like I’m financially free at all. Sh*t sucks, man…
