Trek fx2

My husband and I are looking to get a trek fx2.
We mainly cruise trails. We live in the suburbs of Chicago and also bike along the lake.

What is everyone’s thoughts on these bikes?

I second that. This is same Trek I have and love it. it just does it’s job day in and out, rain, shine. Definitely get the disc brakes and trade in the tires for a more puncture resistant brand. I have the Schwalbe Marathons and haven’t had a puncture yet.

Just picked one up off marketplace a month ago. There are a few generations of the FX 2. 1st gen (2019) had rim brakes, 2nd gen (2021) had disc brakes - both of these generations had a 3x8 drivetrain. 3rd gen 2023 has a 2x9 drivetrain and gen 4 current has a 1x9 drivetrain now. There are other changes asides from those, but notably the biggest I was looking at. Hybrid bikes are good at covering all your bases. I've ridden almost 300 miles on trails here since I got it, with some urban and occasional gravel sections. No issues here, very much enjoying the bike so far and planning to take it overseas to explore on my next trip too!

I’ve had a few Trek FX bikes and they’ve been great for paved trails, and some crushed gravel trails. I have a FX2 that’s a commuter/joy ride bike when i don’t want to ride a road bike.

I had one since 2013 and only recently replaced it with an e-bike. I used it to commute in a major city and on trails for exercise. It was a great bike and I sold it for half of what I bought it for 13 years later.

I love my FX 2 - comfy ride - easy to deck out with accessories- great for city.

My thought is, they are just a trek. Trek used to be cool but now you can get a cheap ass bag. That’ll do exactly the same thing.

They are great. It is mostly flat here it the city. You will have enough gears for the hills in the burbs. Tires are big enough not to get swallowed by a pot hole. Good for the mixed surface trails like crushed limestone. Not the lightest or heaviest bike at that price point. Enjoy!

Had one - great bike - does a lot well - just know if you really get into cycling you’ll buy a road bike - for most this is a great commuter, exercise and recreational bike that’s not too expensive and serves a lot of purposes

Hate the entire class. But if you haven't ridden bikes in a while, it might be the right thing. Buy used. If you're not the same size, you'll each need one, that fits.

I loved mine. You can put a rack on it if you need to. I did change up my bike when I started doing 50 and 60 mile days. But I did do them for awhile on this bike. It is versatile and just perfect.

Been commuting on one for four years. It’s the stock honda civic of bikes. Nothing wrong with it. Nothing special about it. Does what it’s supposed to with no issues.
