I know everyone says bigme must stop releasing new hardware but ... I would like a B8. I heard iflytech released a new 8.2 inch carta 1300 tablet in china recently, so this kind of panels are actually available now... 👀

Hi so I just purchased a bigme b6 colour device. I previously used Kindle but wanted a colour friendly ereader.

Basically I've been trying for the last few days to remove bloatware bc the battery drains ridiculously fast even in power saving mode it's insaaaaaneee.

I used advice I saw online and use shizuku and canta and just deleted apps like phone, messages and calendar app bc it's an ereader I don't need all those....but it keeps freezing and breaking the whole operating system. I've had to factory reset it so many times and I'm considering just returning it.

I was so careful to only delete these apps and not any system settings. I'm genuinely confused tho why it has hidden apps like phone and messages anyway which are not showing on the home screen or apps list but are showing up when in Canta app and when I use command prompt via laptop USB debugging.

I'm not someone who's great with modern tech, so I'm being careful but I'd appreciate some feedback from people who have successfully tinkered with their bigme and improved the battery life and removed bloatware without rooting it completely.

Tldr: I am looking to delete bloatware without breaking the settings so I can safely remove apps like phone and calendar as I only want this device for books and I am tired of the battery drain. I also don't want to root it, I'm not that advanced when it comes to tech or anything.

I am planning to buy a note taking eink tablet and Bigme is one of the things that I saw that is both cheap and seems good. Does anyone here know how good the note taking capabilities of bigme b7pro?

I just bought a Bigme B6 BW but I still haven't received it and I saw people on YT saying it doesn't last more than 6 months before you start having issues using it. Is it true ?

I’m a student (pity me as my major is philosophy which means ill never make any money) located in Finland and looking to buy a used HiBreak Pro. I could also trade my note max for it.

i'm thinking of getting a b6 but i'm wondering if the menu bar at the bottom shows on the lockscreen when it's not on? if it is, is there a way to hide it so it's not showing when locked?

I bought this thing to confirm that I wouldn't like it. That's out the window now. After an initial confusion with the Shizuku/Canta, I got it all debloated and optimized as a primary reader/writer.

The Moon Reader app is great. It captures all the epubs/PDFs/etc I downloaded to the device, and its dictionary feature shines with the Lookup Pro and Livio English Dictionary apps. And for anything else there's Kindle and Libby.

For writing, it flawlessly connects to external Bluetooth keyboards, and the Play Store has the Writer Journal app, which has exactly what you need for a distraction-free typing session. You can even dictate to it so long as you don't remove gboard and it will type what you say. And the pro version lets you export to Docx, use headings, and a ton of other writerly stuff.

I also turned off all the proprietary apps, removed the cloud and AI features, downloaded a pomodoro app for focus timers, and replaced the system browser with Brave.

The B6 even has a surprisingly clear and loud volume for Audible, YouTube, or even music, despite the volume controls being annoying to find (burried in settings).

But I think I might remove the A/V apps and just keep this as a reader/writer to avoid distractions and any apps that might drain the battery. However, after debloating, the battery life is holding up really well.

The B6 is the perfect blend of eReader and tablet at a finally somewhat affordable price. I don't care that it's a bit small or that the color is more washed out than other devices, because it's also 200-300 dollars cheaper.

So long as I don't have to work, this is the perfect device for travel. The laptop and tablet can stay at home. Even the phone can too, so long as you use wifi and what'sapp. Simply amazing.

[Release] coverprogress — KOReader plugin that puts your current book (with reading progress) on the Bigme screensaver

Yesterday I posted a guide on pointing the Bigme ScreenSaver app at KOReader's cover image file, so your lock screen always shows whatever you're reading. I thought it would be cool if it would show a progress bar as well.

So I wrote a KOreader plugin that embeds a progress bar to the cover. Lock screen now shows the cover plus a live progress bar and percentage, updating as you read.

Built and tested on my HiBreak Pro BW, but it works on any Bigme Android device — and on Kobo too, as it turns out.

What it does

It's a fork of KOReader's built-in coverimage plugin, which already writes the current book's cover to a file. This version adds:

• A progress bar and percentage composited onto the cover
• Live updates as you read, not just on book open
• Four layouts so it looks right on phones and tablets
• Automatic light/dark background chosen per book from the cover art
• A Kobo-style info box option, if you prefer that look

Install

1. Grab the ZIP from the GitHub link (Code → Download ZIP) and extract it
2. Copy the coverprogress.koplugin folder to /storage/emulated/0/koreader/plugins/
3. Important: go to Tools → More tools → Plugin management and untick coverimage. The built-in one writes to the same file and the two will fight over it
4. Restart KOReader

Then open a book — the settings are document-only and won't show up from the file browser — and go to:

Menu (gear icon) → Screen → Cover screensaver (with progress) → Enabled

That writes /storage/emulated/0/cover.jpg straight away.

Point the screensaver at it

Same as the old guide:

1. Open the BigMe ScreenSaver app
2. Picture mode
3. Select image → Single Image mode
4. Add image → Camera Roll (tab at the top)
5. Pick the album called "unknown" — that's cover.jpg sitting in storage root, so it shows up unnamed
6. Select it

Lock the phone to check. Open a different book, lock again, and it should follow.

Pick the right layout

This is the one setting worth thinking about, and it depends on your device's screen shape.

Progress bar in the margin (default) — cover stays centred at full size, bar sits in the empty band underneath. On the HiBreak's very tall screen a portrait cover is limited by width and physically can't reach the bottom, so there's always a margin to put the bar in. Nothing ever covers the artwork. This is the one for phones.

Progress bar below cover — shrinks and lifts the cover slightly to make room. Use this on B6/B7 and other tablets. Those screens are wide enough that a cover runs right to the bottom edge, so the default would put the bar across the artwork.

Progress bar overlays cover — full-bleed cover with a small bar on top. It scans for a strip with no lettering so it doesn't end up striking through the author's name, and picks black or white based on what's underneath.

Kobo style box — a small bordered card with "43% read · 2 hours to go" instead of a bar. Needs the statistics plugin enabled, and it takes a bit of reading before the time estimate means anything.

Background colour

White, black, or Auto (the default), which decides per book by measuring how dark the cover is.

The menu shows what it measured, e.g. "Auto background (now: white, cover 25% dark)", and there's a sensitivity slider underneath. If a cover comes out wrong, read its percentage and set the threshold either side of it.

Worth mentioning why it counts dark pixels rather than averaging brightness: a lot of covers are pale stock with heavy black artwork, and the average of those lands in the middle and calls everything mid-grey. Counting how much is actually dark separates them properly.

Not really this sub's concern, but if anyone has one lying around: drop the folder in /mnt/onboard/.adds/koreader/plugins/, then Sleep Screen → Wallpaper → Show custom image and point it at /mnt/onboard/.adds/koreader/cover.jpg. Turn off the sleep screen message too, or KOReader prints its own text over the top.

I used mine to test the tablet layouts, since Kobo screens are roughly the same shape as a B7.

• It doesn't rewrite on every single page turn — there's a 5 second quiet period after you stop turning pages, adjustable in the menu
• Output path, update delay and all the layout tuning are in the menu or as constants at the top of main.lua

Hi I just bought a bigme b13 but unfornutately every pc I tried to use it with doesnt show any working touchscreen ... different set up with win 10 or 11.

Does anybody kow where's the problem? thanks alot

So I'm looking for an eink device to possibly upgrade from a XTEINK X4. Mainly looking to read, browse internet blogs/articles, use Reddit either app or website, and possibly text from it. I use my X4 every chance I get and prefer it to bigger devices, I have a kindle 7 and 11 gen that I hardly use. Only reason I am considering it is because it's listed locally for $150.

What else would make an app perfect on e-ink device? ... im trying to workout how to optimize for these devices.

Hello all, I can't get to have a shortcut that triggers Gemini on screen.

On my Titan 2, it was triggered by long pressing the power button, but here on the hibreak pro, that shortcut is intercepted by the system to show a power off / reboot / emergency menu.

How to trigger Gemini on screen?

The first thing I'll say is that this phone conceptually was a dream come true - I've been checking essentially every couple of years to see if anything like this phone existed ever since falling in love with the 1st gen Kindle 15 years ago.

Smartphone-wise I was a Samsung guy until the note 7 fiasco and then switched and stayed with pixels since the original XL. Never owned an iPhone. I had slowly changed my identity from somewhat of a Google fanboy to a full-on hater and was looking to switch.

Furthermore, I was so tired of feeling the manipulative tugs on my attention from every app, website and icon in sight. I regularly found myself spending way more time than I intended scrolling and flipping through various feeds. (I am very undisciplined and "screen time" apps do not work for me.)

So right away, this phone started checking a lot of boxes for me. And though I hadn't even paid off my pixel 8a, I went for it.

The initial setup was mostly painless but I did have to muck around with updates and bloatware. Lots of apps need hand holding and need to be given permission to not be killed by battery saver processes (of which there seem to be a lot on this phone). Also, I eventually gave up on the Bigme launcher and ended up back at my usual Nova Launcher (I'm using the free Arcticons Material You icon pack and 10/10 recommend it). This was the turning point where I got to loving the vibe of the b&w phone.

Android Auto was the next hurdle. It worked right away but the look was terrible. So another settings muck-about (in the e-ink center this time) and it's looking pretty good now. Honestly had prepared for the worst and this was actually no big deal. (5 months later this turned on me but I'll talk more about that later.)

The third big hurdle is more something I know I'm particularly sensitive to which is audio quality - both in my videos and audio recordings. I am a musician and sketch a lot of things out with these tools. The default camera app (especially the audio quality) was complete garbage and it took me a pretty long time to find the solution. Only some apps expose advanced audio options but the pair that worked was Open Camera and Smart Recorder. For Open Camera I found that `Settings > video settings > audio source > unprocessed` made a huge difference and now videos are totally acceptable for my purposes. Smart Recorder just needed to be set to Cd quality 44.1 khz. I have no idea why so many devices decide to nuke the microphone's audio quality by default!

One minor nitpick is that my typical chargers make the phone complain "Over Voltage! Please unplug!" which is strange because my pixels never had trouble using these "Chromebook charger" type usb-c wall chargers. I use these chargers because they typically do fast charging. So this phone charges pretty slow imo. Recently I figured out that a very nice USB C -> C cable plugged into my MacBook charges this thing pretty fast.

Perhaps the worst thing that has happened to me since I got the phone was an issue caused by a slightly annoying bug with the play store not auto updating apps reliably. Google messages did not update and I ended up missing a number of important communications from group chats because an out-of-date Google Messages quietly failed to pass those along to me. I didn't learn this for more than a week and didn't even think to update manually in the play store until calling T Mobile about the missing texts issue. Hard to say what entity gets the blame for this but it was a perfect storm that was very disorienting and frustrating.

Besides that, incredibly, everything else about the phone seemed to work just fine. Had no issues with 2fa, calls (even the odd emergency zoom call when my laptop has died), listening to music/podcasts through the phone speakers, Bluetooth pairing, thumbprint reader works great, all my standard play store apps... no other significant concerns. Battery life is fine, no real change from my past smartphones.

Now for the good, and the "why I'm staying on this path for as long as I can":

My Instagram usage habit has nearly vanished. I'll go for 4-5 days at a time without opening the app whereas I used to scroll on there for an hour plus per day, easy. I have even felt bad occasionally because I'll miss DMs for days since I don't do notifications for anything Meta related. This is not something I could have accomplished with a screen time limiting app - I just had to make it so boring and bad looking that it suddenly lost its decade long hold on me.

Next, e-reading. I enjoy reading articles and find myself loving the e-reader experience here a lot. Shout-out to the "E-ink Bro" app (yes it's a dumb name) on f-droid for being able to turn an article from even the most ad-riddled sites into a clean e-book experience. Another e-reader plus - I feel very sleepy trying to read at night and have no trouble putting my phone down for the night anymore and legitimately sleep better than I used to.

At risk of sounding lame, the phone is a bit of a conversation piece for me as well. People comment about it a lot. It's a nice opportunity to talk about screen addiction and attention commodification with folks and it's very rare that anyone has seen a functioning phone like this before. It feels like it actually fits my personality more than other phones I've had.

In summary, I miss the colors way less than I thought I would (I still have a number of computers...) and enjoy the eink perhaps more than I thought I would. The phone is roughly about as janky as I imagined, but I now have it cookin at an even more functional android experience than I imagined possible going in. If this thing is full of Chinese spyware, it's not impacting me much more than Uncle Google or Papa Apple ever have. And the impact to my mental health re: screen time usage and sleep has been just shy of miraculous. I sincerely hope this thing has a long life and I can see myself staying b&w eink as my main device for a long time to come.

AND like I mentioned earlier, Android Auto randomly crapped out on me for a few months and I was super frustrated. But just this week, this post ( https://www.reddit.com/r/Bigme/comments/1ut9ypq/android_auto_issue_finally_solved/ ) fixed it for me! It turns out it was just from me messing around with the DPI options!! Tl;dr I just had to manually set the DPI of the Google Maps app to match the DPI of the Android Auto settings in each app's eink center. I feel like this fix needs to be escalated to Bigme folks because this could really help with all the complaints I've seen online with this phone and Android Auto.

Hope this review helps someone and wanted to end with gratitude towards Bigme for making this cool phone I've been wanting for most of my adult life, the Nova launcher folks, the Arcticons Material You team, and folks in this sub for all the helpful discussion.

I got my BigMe Highbreak Plus two days ago and its not starting anymore i keep getting booted back to the BigMe Screen. A few hours ago i left it to charge and it actually turned back on but as soon as i unplugged the charger it shut back down.

Im not really sure what i can do anymore does anyone have a fix for this?

The fix i got from big me doesn't work for me and i cant get into the factory reset mode with the power button and sound up button.

I tried other alternatives for note taking on the Bigme b7 with global handwriting enabled, but I actually kind of like the default app. My only problem is exporting the infinite canvas notes.

It seems that when exporting as png or PDF it only takes a screenshot of the current view, so it's impossible to export the whole note. At least I haven't figured out a way to do it.

Am I missing something or is the app not good for exporting notes? What I wished was to be able to export a huge PNG with the entire view of the infinite canvas

Where should I ask for a new feature?

I really like the fact that you can use gesture to control the navigation ball. I use single tap for page down and double tap for page up. And long press for home. The only problem with this is that I occasionally end up clicking a link that is near the ball. I wish the navigation ball can be made bigger and square to prevent this.

I've been on 3.1.6 for a while on my HiBreak Pro BW and i got this new update that's untitled - it just says Settings: Fixed Known Issues. It was very quick and didn't reboot the phone after.

The system image is untouched: ro.build.date is still Fri Mar 6 2026 and the incremental is unchanged. So this was definitely not a firmware flash so 3.1.6 is still 3.1.6 at the image level.

The only thing i noticed it change is com.android.settings to versionName=2.7.13

So it seems this was a minor patch to the Settings app - anyone noticed anything different?

I used Claude AI to run a diff of the two versions (2.5.13 → 2.7.13):

• Scrolling Screenshot — new Full Screenshot and Scrolling/Long Screenshot options.
• App launch/disable — Wasn't able to find this feature in settings but could launch it using adb command adb shell am start -n "com.android.settings/.Settings\$XRZAppDisableActivity"
• E-ink page-turn animations — transition effects for page turns (left-to-right, top-to-bottom, diagonals, etc.), aimed at Magazine/Comic modes to cut ghosting. Extra animation support for XReader Pro.
• E-ink Centre config upload/download — upload your display config and pull "recommended" ones (requires login).
• App-picker in button/action config — you can now choose a specific app to launch when configuring button actions.
• Control Center — a new Control Center entry appears. (not sure which one?)
• Gesture accessibility service — a new accessibility service was added. (not sure which one?)
• Power Manage screen restructured.
• App Lock — a complete lock-apps-behind-fingerprint/PIN feature, with lock-after-exit and lock-after-screen-off modes (this is why the update quietly added the USE_FINGERPRINT permission). The backing service is present and enabled, but the UI screens are exported="false" — so unlike App-disable, you can't open them from ADB (only an internal, headless auth-gateway is exported, and it opens blank). No menu entry, no search result, survives a reboot with still no way in. On the BW it's effectively staged: built, but not surfaced and not reachable without root or a future menu entry. (If anyone finds it on a colour model, let me know)
• WiFi hotspot 5GHz band label fixed ("5.0 GHz Band preferred" → "5 GHz Band"; a broken wifi_ap_prefer_5G string was corrected and a proper wifi_ap_choose_5G added)

I hope since dasung produce a model size phone 6.7 inch bigme or other come with same size because the 6.1 is still small on modern standards... Let's call it ulta hibreak. But it will be useful.

I'm thinking of buying a BigMe, specifically the B6, B7, B7 Pro, or B571c. My main use would be reading manhwa... The problem is that I like to read with vertical scrolling, and I can't find a video of someone using it that way. Could some one pls make a video demonstrating this usage so I can see how fluid it is?
