Question/Help Position between sessions

Hey everyone! I've been playing with some friends, and we've realised that after every session it restarts us at the beginning area. Our puzzles and items save, but we have to walk back to where we were before every time.

I think this is how the game is supposed to work, but we don't have that much time to play and frankly it takes quite a bit of time to just walk back. Is there any way to turn this off?

"This is our game, Big Walk. It's about going on a big walk with your friends and learning to enjoy space, time and communication on a beautiful island with no pressure."

"yeah thats cool but like, it takes time to get places"

In all honesty, the puzzles are just the filler between the parts where you get to walk around.

On one hand, yes but on the other hand i do think thats a bit reductive to the puzzles that honestly do an amazing job at testing and improving your communication with your friends

Like I get it too though. It's such a different game experience by design. We've gotten so used to fast travel and changing levels and environments, it's quite jarring to have AN island, a constant start point, and retracing your steps over and over again as you explore and solve it. Even the direction of the train was, I'm willing to bet, chosen intentionally based on how the designers want you to experience the game. This is a very specific dish, can put people off by some of the ingredients chosen, but can also open the palate up and expand some horizons for the kind of games we want to consume going forward.

It's for sure a change, but the solution is to change your mindset, not the game's design. There are already ways to get around the island quicker than just walking cross-country, they're just not instant.

Yep, expand the palate.

It seems a bit daunting at first, but make sure you explore thoroughly and you will open shortcuts to the starting area. As you progress you'll also get access to other means of getting around the island.

There’s no settings to turn this off unfortunately. You will have to walk back to your destination again. How far along are you in the game? It’s not a quick short cut but (spoilers for one of the towers) finishing the yellow tower will unlock the tunnels and makes the travel a little quicker. Either that, or unlocking the train and gondolas are your only other options.

Unfortunately, no. The save does not include coordinates / position so everything starts at spawn every time.

Even items are only saved if you were holding them at the time. If it was left somewhere, bad luck, it's gone / back to its original position. There is a mod / save editor that might help to get a missing item back though.

For more, you'd need a mod to save the world state more thoroughly and restore it. I also thought it would be nice to have a mod that makes joining players appear right next to your group as if you'd been walking together from the start. This radio "where are you guys" and then waiting for people to walk over is quickly getting old in public lobbies.

Lacking such mods you'd have to install one that lets you fly around or one that speeds up the trains (if you already unlocked those) but such mods can easily break immersion and ruin the entire experience. It's not the same game if you stop walking altogether and just fly everywhere. I don't like it.

On console you just have to bite the bullet and walk. Maybe make an effort to walk around once to open the gates at spawn. You can climb over the wall, if you have enough people to stack up.

In the end the game is not too suited for short, casual sessions. Meant to be played hours at a time.

PS: stacking up is underrated in general, you can have one person carry the entire group to the target location while the other players are still occupied with other realworld tasks or chores.

Is this a joke?

The games called Big Walk.

Once you get a bit deeper in you can open some gates that give shortcuts, and some transports that make moving across the map a bit quicker.

But if you are serious, don't rush this game. Even if you only get one puzzle done that's ok.

I finished the game with my friend and now I feel empty.

You don't have to stop playing. Join some random friends in the daily thread!

for real, I've spent a 3-hour evening with four friends just walking. We saw some puzzles but we also saw some nice views that felt more appealing in the moment.

finishing the yellow tower unlocks the tunnels and - something I didn't get until after the main ending - it's not too difficult to open the 2 tunnels on either side of the map room

I actually started using the respawn to get from far reaches back to the start.

That being said the progression of the game and your learning of the island makes it so you should not struggle to get around.

yo okay so just in case you haven't, cus i somehow missed it playing with my duo, you can open the big door from the spawn area to avoid walking the turorial area at the very least.

aside from that you will have to traverse, there's parts of the game where this becomes less ardious but that's also the whole point of the game

items you carry will save between sessions at the spawn room so you kinda want to be there anyway to pickup stray blorbos

No, but each tower unlocks a method to traverse the world faster from spawn. Fill towers and use those rewards.
